Any thoughts on a radar gun for starting line?

Any thoughts on a radar gun for starting line?
Radar on this course with a 4-5 mph current and at the angle of the course would not work and make for a long day. This is outlaw racing and I admit the promos guys got a little hot but all were veteran drivers and knew what was going on. I have ran radar starts and there is always I may I say again there is always starts when the two are not equally paired. You come dragging in to odba lights dragging and mr freeman will drop a green light on ya. As far as us conforming our rules to one or two people we are not out of 29 boats I had one that was dissatisfied

I think you have one that has voiced his opinion and mabe if you dont change the starting procedure you will be down to alot less in your boat count ? Who knows? Yall have done a great job with your club i think the starting line needs a little fine tuning. If its going to be an "outlaw" starting line everyone that wants to race will adjust quickly. I am not trying to start an argument just a suggestion from my point of view. I know yall have worked hard and i want to see this club thrive because just like you i have a passion for racing.

And we do thank you for it. As something totally new, we're gonna have mistakes. But you can bet your lower unit, they get addressed. Just like the 12" issue. We're lookin at it.

Actually the ODBA always used their radar setup at this site when they raced there and yes that current will test your patience to say the least. The ODBA radar set-up actually has the ability to adjust for current. That being said, I have always argued a starter with a no B S attitude can put an end to the games without the assistance of radar equipment. Certain things a radar gun can't detect:). One things for sure, a starter with the brass to do what is necessary won't make any friends that's for sure.

Jay- the veterans are the ones you should of been worried about:)

I agree, The race shouldn't start until the lights go green.. In 660' or 800', Any advantage given to a driver in the lights & its game over.. Just not enough distance to make it up.. JMO..

Doesn't this organization exist because the sandbar badasses didn't like all the rules and regs that came with the other clubs. Well boys and girls ,once again you got what you asked for and someone still aint happy. What a surprise. This club worked pretty hard to make this happen for everyone involved and the aw hells out weigh the atta boys again on the internet. I don't know all the particulars of the other thread but I got a fair idea whats up. I heard this starting speed issue was a deal breaker for some folks. Shame on ya 'll. You really didn't think just because you showed up the club was gonna throw a check and a first place trophy at ya did ya? Instead of takin your ball and goin home . Jump in and help. Its always easier to quit. just not as fun. The folks that's been around this stuff for a while all know that once the game gets started you cant just turn it off that easy . After it starts the nice guy goes to the trailer first. I gotta tell ya I kinda enjoyed watching the old school racin and if it gonna happen that was the perfect place for it. The crowd seemed to enjoy it. Ray is right on with his statement by the way. I like radar , lights , and a mean starter. I like leavin together , side by side on a good launch and seeing the other boat the whole way . Tite runs are exciting to me. But just because that's the way I want to race doesn't mean Im gonna let someone get over on me if I can help it. I don't like to play the game doesn't mean I cant play .Don't mean to step on toes and hate if I did but We all know what Galen says.

thats what i thought to johnny. Running a race is harder than you think it is .all the people are volunteers. So everybody can have a place to race . I had a good time. Looking forward to doing it again thanks

I'm like John, I don't want to play the game but I will if pushed. I prefer a good clean start from 7 mph but once you try to get an unfair advantage on me I'll screw your eyeballs out or get tossed by the starter but I'm not giving up anything in the buoy's.

So this being the first boat drags I've been to I decided they're two people in a race cheaters and losers bunch of outlaws but sseriously with a 4 to 5 mph current how do you keep your boat straight at 7mph that would only be a 2 mph gain on current and i know my boat would be running over the boys at that speed just saying tough call for the starter and the drivers i just hope this little ddiscrepancy doesn't make it harder to put on events like this because I hope to make many more events if I can work them in

Just curious, could the course have been turned around where you were running against the currentReally? If you would have been there that would answer your question, and while I am on the subject, there are a few of us that have money, time, time and money involved in SODS and we are not as sophisticated as DSRA or ODBA and never will be, its our type of racing .So instead of coming onto our thread and asking questions about things that you did not see but heard call me. 334-791-4652. Don't let this discourage you at all. This little whine fest is all part of it. Keep your mindset about how its supposed to fun and your eye on the prize . There are cheaters , losers, winners , rule pushers , and grey area hunters and everything in between .. As with any sport this is a competition and you will have examples of all styles and thoughts to try and get to the checkered flag. Some people just don't seem to have the dignity your would expect from a fellow competitor all the time. For the most part its a great bunch and a hell of a good time . There will definitely be more events. ODBA is having a race in Stockton Al . this weekend . Come on over its not that far for ya.

Erik the way the river makes a turn right there you really cant turn it around cause you,d be running right into the bridge pilings. Ita tricky place to stage for sure but we've all done before.

No dis on anyone here I was there and thought it went great I'm just funning was curious as to how the could've launched slower is all I didn't see it being possible with the current by my figures 7 mph boat speed plus 5 current speed is 12 looks about right to me

Damn Jay, I don't think Erik meant any harm. Fair question if you haven't been to that site before. No sophisticated equipment is needed just a starter with a iron hand. Everybody's "type" of racing should begin with a fair start, or as fair as possible, not always going to be perfect. Hate to see you getting so worked up 2 races in...........it's a thankless job that's for sure. Will make you quit if you let it get to you.

I truly appreciate everyone's hard work they put in (ODBA, DSRA, SODS) just to give us a place to race.. Im prob one of the worst Drivers out there & its still not very difficult to pair up & give each other a clean start.. I don't care who ya are, if your coming in hot or on plane trying to screw the guy next to ya, its not right IMO.. Let your boat do the talking after the light goes green.. Thanks Jay, Randy & all involved, hate I missed it..
