Call Kenny or Jeff @ K&K outboard in Oceanside. They are a Yamaha dealer, built that boat and know them better than anyone around! You will get the proper setup info first time around.
BTW, Superbender on here can also provide you with good info and help on the motor!!!

I just bought a 23 last month hat I'm restoring also. Some Sandy damage on top of 30 years of use. You MUST check out the youtube videos of the Kalibat brothers racing in Key West in the 1980's if you haven't already done so. They're amazing! I'm very excited to get mine back together. If you insist on tweaking your Yamabomba, Superbender is your guy. But you might check your history, watch The Great Raid, remember the Japanese Death March in the Phillipines and Buy American! Just sayin.

I've seen that Ghost for sale on CL for a couple of years on and off. Was a little over my budget at the time - very nice boat ! Good luck. Is the lower unit stock or a LWP ? Sounds like a couple of bolt holes and a prop meant for surfacing...

I've been waiting awhile to see a thread like this. I've got a 28 that was originally burgundy and white. I recently changed the color to silver and white. The windshield was in bad shape, so I removed it. Twin 200's (for now).

It's a 1986. Not sure of its entire journey to the west coast, but I picked it up in Lake Havasu.

Congrats on the 23 unfort the 200s really are too small to get the boat to its speed once there is bottom paint etc. Sad to have lost mine after finally getting one. I had a 2.4L merc 200 and saw 69.4 but was pretty empty on gas. Id like to see someone put a 300xs on a 23 or a pair on a 28.

How bad was that 28 that you got up north?

If anyone ever selling there ghost (especially a 28) please contact me first i would appreciate it.

Goodluck to all the new ghost owners

I know these hulls are built tough, but are there any common issues I should look for?
I'm going to get started on the glass work soon and my one S&F friend recommended I seek advice. He also suggested I paint my Ghost red and run it on Uncle Ben's. lol

Bayrat: which color boat do you have? The cushions all pop right out up front I'd do that. The sport deck is 1250lbs and high deck is 1350lbs.

Thanks S84. I have the offwhite and brown high deck. I posted a pic at the beginning of this thread. It came from K&K about 2mos ago. I believe the registrant was from Point Lookout. 1350 seems pretty light, that's great news. I plan to run it initially with a 2.5 200. I have a 24" chopper on the shelf:) Any thoughts on setback? My friend is trying to talk me into his 12" plate. I've seen the 28' with big setback but haven't seen any 23's. Also, I hope to go 3 liter by the spring. I want it to run like the 1982 youtube video. From what I understand, the competition hull was much lighter, so I realize mine will take some power and setup to get up. Thanks again 84.

Thanks. That was the first thing I did. Since then I added the alien cowls, rebuilt the steering, new gauges, new steering wheel, controls, pop up cleats, removed the windscreen, changed the color, rebuilt the motors, new cables, hoses, etc, etc. Its a real fun boat. Out in the west coast no one has any idea what it is, but everyone seems to love it. It's nice to see a thread started by other ghost enthusiasts.

Wellstercraft what kind of mph you see with 200s

Wellstercraft
08-15-2013, 11:07 AM
Consistent 70 mph (iPhone GPS). It seems that the rougher the water, the faster she wants to go. I just installed transom mount water pickups. I was losing water pressure past 65 mph. I should be able to wring out every last mph now that I have good water pressure. I'm running 26 choppers right now. They seem to be good all around props. The boat handles like its on rails.

Not fixable due to the asshole town worker who decided to take his plow and crush the deck in and push it across the street and over the curb and blew the bottom out, when it wasn't necessary at all.

yup probably the same worker who in the process of cutting down the tree in front of my house preceded to hit his coworker in the head and rip the elec. service mast off the side of my house
I know everyone was doing the best they could and I'm sure a bit shell shocked but there were a lot of cases of just plain poor judgement

I had mine out yesterday. The transom water pickups were a great upgrade. Consistent water pressure regardless of speed, water conditions or during turns. I still can't believe how good these boats run with stock 200's.

I was just by K&K today. The Kalibats are true gentlemen. They helped me out with setup, they sold it to me. I now have the transom plates and 10" jackplate already adjusted for my 2.4 with 24" chopper. Its a proven 69mph setup. I'm trying to patch some holes, roll on some paint and make it out to watch the races this weekend:)

Pete that came off my boat, which i saw gps 69.4 out of but it was an unpainted bottom and very very low on fuel and my motor was a mint 2.4L 200 with open exhaust and some other little tricks my uncle worked up for me. I usually ran 67-68, so if you have painted bottom you should see low 60's. Goodluck with the project and you have my boats only remaining part so use it well :D.

84, I've been working hard to get the 30yrs of paint off the bottom. 90% there! My 2.4 is mint and has the exhaust done also. I also have a 2.5 with 135psi across the board. That may be mounted on your bracket by Sun. I'm thinking 3 liter for the spring though. I'm very happy to have your bracket and transom plates. Very cool! Maybe I'll see you out there this weekend. I just want to get her somewhat seaworthy. Sandy kicked her ass a lil. I hoping the maiden voyage will be race day. Won't be pretty though. BTW, Thanks to you and your family for an awesome boat and for their help in bringing her back to life.
Gotta give a shout out to Superbender and GM250 for making it all possible:) Thanks Guys.

Thanks for an entertaining thread! I'm a newb to Scream and Fly, and reviving the thread to see if anyone would be willing to share pictures and thoughts on the 23 Ghost transom. I have a Glastron CVX 23 which is the same hull as the Ghost 23. My plan has been to convert it to outboard power.

What's the maximum setback that works well? With about 25", I wouldn't need to cut into the swim platform.

I think I have a 50 gallon gas tank. With the setback, would it be best to move the gas tank so that the front edge is even with the front of the cabin?

Thanks in advance for the help. Mods -- If this needs a different topic just let me know and I'll start one.

Ghost industries first 23 boat was inspired by Glastron as we were a dealer of Glastrons but its far from "the same hull as Ghost 23". That being said, the 23 ghost is best run with a 12" to 18" setback 20" shaft and a Chopper for bow lift (my old boat I ran a 26" chopper on a stock merc 2.4 200 and ran a best of 71 mph). Don't put anything in the bow that would be very counterproductive.

That's very helpful. In the meantime, I've decided to sell the CVX23. It will be a great project for someone, but it's more time than I want to invest at this stage of life.

I don't know if the forum rules allow for this or not, but here's the link to the boat sale: https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/boa/d/1988-glastron-cvx-23-to/6633009365.html

Not sure of the condition of your hull, but if its in good shape I am curious of the numbers you see with a 300 or a 300x, as to my knowledge nobody has ever put something that big on a 23 ghost. If your setup is right you should see speeds comparable to the 21 superboat, but be careful 90s are uncharted waters for the hull. Good Luck with it.

Since the boats were the same length, what specifically was added(as a positive) to the Glastron hull plug, to alter the bottom design to a Ghost? I see a pseudo pad that was added, in this photo. What, if anything else, was there exactly?https://www.screamandfly.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=412382&d=1531392601 (https://www.screamandfly.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=412382&d=1531392601)

I have spent some time going over it seems like it is in pretty decent shape but clearly the bottom is not perfect so i am sure 90 is probably out
Hoping with all this 4 stroke talk the 2 strokes 300 promax is something that fits the budget.
Just wondering are you the one that built it? its an 89

Not sure actually, as my father is the builder. Difference is the 23 ghost is alot faster than the glastron and the rest is trade secrets of Ghost Industries lol
