Hey guys. I started to make these as there are fewer and fewer available to us.
This is my hobby not my business.

They are available for shipping. Shipping costs are about $25.00 from me to Alabama, for example.

I have made floor mounts and side mounts.
They are universal and fit any cable with a 3/8 diameter sleeve.
They DO NOT use the plastic lug (trunion) to position them.

Floor mounts are not supplied with mounting holes. You can drill them to suit yout mounting location.

Rick, these work by adjustable friction plate. You can adjust it to be so tight you need 3 men and a small boy to move the lever.
If you are worried about it falling out of gear. that would only happen if you adjusted it to loose.

I have quite a few of them in T-boats here, and not one has ever slipped out of gear.
I did make a design with a detent (and can still make them) but it was redundant with the friction disc.

I have changed the design of the handle a bit to make it slightly lighter. I am water jet cutting the main shape now out of 3/8" 6061 instead of machining it from 1/2". Not much of a weight loss but every bit counts!!

Sure!! I would need some more information of what you are trying to do and I will design and build to suit your needs.

This is what I do, Vnemous, design and fabricate custom components.

Although, my recommendation for a performance boat would be a foot throttle to free up your hands.

I have a concept. Are you trying to keep this a light as possible?
What engine are you running?
What is the distance of the cable pull for the throttle from idle to WOT?
Do the class rules require a neutral safety switch?
Which side of the boat does the throttle man sit in?

Light not really a factor more about durability since we will be in the atlantic ocean for lots of races. 21 foot superboat throttle is to port. 2.5 200 merc. Dont know the distance yet till I figure out the seating and console. Two kill switches but no neutral safety.

The distance I need is the throttle travel of the engine. 3" is typical. Want to make sure the movement is right for you throttle person.

Vnemous, just doing some priliminary design on this combination.
Would you want the throttle to be spring return to idle when you let go or hold position?
Most hand operated throttles hold position, wherever you leave it.

Sorry guys! I've been out blowing up snowmobiles here in the great white north! Almost 12" fell on us yesterday. Blew the engine in one sled and broke the throttle lever on another!! What a stupid sport!! :-)

Schramer, I have not made a "hidden" cable type (yet!). I designed these to be light, inexpensive and cool looking for race/fast boats. I have seen them mounted on the "kick plate" by your right knee in an STV like the sweet looking ride in your post. I am throwing a few design concepts around but I am having trouble keeping the costs down. Stay tuned, they may be available in the future.

Bernard, as always, great hearing from you and thank you very much for your comment. One of the most difficult things to explain about these shifters is that a positive detent is not necessary.

Now I better get my a$$ out to the shop and get some inventory ready for you guys!!

the shifters look great, here is my application, an old 69 magnum 16 v bottom i'm rebuilding and yeah I agree with what you said if you have to drive the boat a foot throttle gives you more control on this boat the seats sides to gunnels is close and I thought of mounting the stock box behind the gunnel upside down all you would see alongside the seat would be your shifter handle sticking down still push for forward the ignition key would be at the bottom........ right there and then the gunnel could have a bolster cushion instead of a stock omc sidemount control which is in the way of . Question for you about neutral safety start switch on your shifter?? and I would rather have the foot throttle, your shifter and separate hidden key switch with built in lanyard cutoff . neutral start switch?

Cool project you have going there!
i did not build my shifters with provisions for a NSS.
The design was to be lightweight, inexpensive and good looking.
Because they are all surface mount, either side or floor, the switch would take away from the cool factor, albeit they are a good safety item for certain applications.
i could make provisions to mount a NSS but it would not be hidden.
I have not heard of anyone using these shifters having any issues and I hope it stays that way!

I have stock on side mount custom fit OMC shifters as well as floor mounts if you decide to go for it.

Please PM me with an "envelope". I need dimensions that you need me to work within.
Distance from seat, height issues, panel thickness, clearance behind panel, etc.
I would also need to know the type of cables you, or plan to, use.

The pictures below show a design concept and complete fabricated dual shift/throttle unit to fit in a VERY tight area.
I had to create everything for this right down to the custom cable end pieces for the 33C cables.
This boat is undergoing refurbishment and modifications and will be a defenite performer once completed!!

Sorry for the late reply. I am in the process of moving to a new house and new shop.
Going to be a busy couple of weeks. Most of the shop equipment is moved.
Mrs. Rowboat keeps asking about the furniture. ??????? :-)

To answer your question, I am getting closer.
i have been working on a few other design items and fabricating existing shifters.
The hidden cable design will be on top of the priority list once the move is completed.
It's designed in my head! Just have to get it on CAD, simulate it, then fabrication will be under way!

One of my regular customers has challenged me for a dual hidden cable shifter as well!!

Rowboat, My son is now ready to go on the twin Yamaha rigging we talked about some time back. Just to refresh they should be floor mount and shifted separately. Is there a way to reverse the mount plate so that the shift handle`s are fairly close together?

It all depends on your set up and boating style. Racers like the shifter out of the way of elbows and knees so they hide them down on the floor back from the front of the seat. Pleasure performance guys love the look of the bling on the side. If it's a boat you can easily shift for docking etc., keep the shifter within easy reach. Wherever best suits your interior layout. We can also make them for left side mount if that works better for you.

Our universal floor mount, Custom Mercury and OMC side mounts are now $150.00 each plus shipping and fees.
Custom Yamaha (or anyone requiring the 33C style cable mount) will be $200.00

Trial assembly on a very cool Pistol Grip shifter set, console mount for dual OMC's.
This one even surprised me at how cool it looks.
It works just as well!

Fujimo, a detent is not required in our design.
We have a torque adjustment setting for the entire shifter swing.
We have yet to have a shifter pop out of gear!
Ask anyone who has one. It works very well.

FYI all!
I got the twin shifter setup from Brent and is a nice piece except in order to use these on a twin counter rotation application they need to be setup differently.
Brent and I have gone over this and I think he got the idea now so you do not have to have one handle in forward and one in reverse.
BTW, Thanks to Quinten (Strongback Trailers) for helping me out and sending me the new mounting piece free of charge so I can make the new and correct mount system.

The twin needed a bit of redoing but I think he has the gist moving forward for the floor mount counter rotating style now!

322311 love mine....doubles nicely as a hugger holder. I do one thing to point out....tha instructions say put locktite on tha set screw...DO IT!! I did not and it allowed tha main pivot bolt to get loose and this let tha shifter get sloppy. Well i thought whatever i'll tighten it when i get home.....first 2 passes 98mph......3rd pass at about 75mph it came out of gear mota hit 11.500 and boat tried to join my friends on tha sandbar. FOLLOW ROWBOATS INSTRUCTIONS!!

Guys, I recommend the loctite to avoid over tightening the set screw.
If you over tighten it, you can damage the threads on the main bolt.
This, in turn, will damage the threads on the handle mount when/if you require further adjustments.

I have a busted throttle/gear shifter and would love to have a two lever, shorty gear shifter with pistol-grip throttle for the console mount on my Mercury powered Flats Boat.

I would LOVE to feature one of your shifters on our boat project but after reading this entire thread, I might be assuming wrong but are all these just for shifting, not throttle and shift? I have a busted throttle/gear shifter and would love to have a two lever, shorty gear shifter with pistol-grip throttle for the console mount on my Mercury powered Flats Boat.

Can you make it happen? Would love to see it on my boat!! :thumbsup:

Designed for Mercury cables. Throttle and shifter are interchangeable side to side.
Base plate can be redesigned to cover opening.
Cables feed in from the bottom.

Hey guys. I started to make these as there are fewer and fewer available to us.
This is my hobby not my business.

They are available for shipping. Shipping costs are about $25.00 from me to Alabama, for example.

I have made floor mounts and side mounts.
They are universal and fit any cable with a 3/8 diameter sleeve.
They DO NOT use the plastic lug (trunion) to position them.

We have been working on the design for the hidden cable (through gunwale) version of our shifters.
A lot of you have requested this style and we are committed to complete this.
It has to follow the model of function first, economical second and cool appearance third.
To date the appearance will remain as our surface mount desgins but all the cable mounts will be hidden.
It will remain a friction based adjustment without detents, at this time.
The "Allison inspired", STV and possibly a new Hydrostream back plate will be incorporated.

Hopefully pictures of the design will be coming soon.
We hope to test it in our Quartershot this spring. Bench testing sooner.

Prototype of hidden cable design.
Cable actuator was just cut to check cable dimensions. Actual unit will be SS, laser cut.
Hardware to be corrected to button head as well and the threaded hole in the handle will be deleted, etc.
Unit will fit in the STV style side console.
Custom backer plates will be available as well.
Unit will be complete and ready for your cable.
Three holes to drill and nothing visible from the outside.

NO DETENTS. This shifter works the same as our surface mounts with adjustable friction.
