Mercury outboards

Hi, I am new to scream and fly but I used to drag race outboards back in the day, Texas Twisters and Southern Drag Boat. I had a 15 ft Lazer 100 cubic inch OMC on alcohol and nitrous the hull weighed 265 LBS ran in the 100 cubic inch unlimited class and the 80-90 MPH class. I also had the very first true 90 plus MPH bass boat in Texas back in 1978 it was a 17ft Hydrostream with a modified 235 OMC boat, motor, gas, battery and me weighed 1555 I know because when I raced in Louisiana they weighed us. Well enough about the old days my question is anyone know what year Mercury started oil injecting their V6 motors.

Thanks garybvd, I am looking at a Mariner Magnum II and he says it is a 1983 but it is oil injected so I am thinking it is newer than an 83, what year do you think it is. I have been an OMC guy and don`t know that much about Mercury motors.

I am not that savvy, but there are plenty of guys here who can tell you exatly what the motor is if you can post the serial and model number. Of course, assuming it is a whole motor and not a conglomeration where the powerhead and the clamp bracket came from diffrent motors.

'84/'85....Knew "Ricky" well. Haven't been in there since he left (RIP bud). There should be someone that comes around there that can show ya where tha build date is stamped on tha block. If I wasn't "retired and here in Fl." I'd gladly come by n help ya out with it. Welcome and I remember THOSE days as well.............Just courious. How long ya been with B&B?
