Rigging my '98 225 Super Mag. Motor did not come with a wire harness. I ordered a brand new harness. Plugged it in and hooked up a battery, turned the key, nothing. What am I missing? I there a lanyard circuit I am missing?

Any way someone can post a wiring diagram so I can get my gauges hooked up as well?

Thanks in advance....

Black wire w/yello tracer is lanyard. Anywhere to ground, motor will not start. Purple is keyed power. Gray to tach. Tan to temp guage. Brown/white trim guage. Good luck.

My guess would be the neutral safety circuit is not hooked up. You need to make sure the yellow wires with the red tracer has a complete circuit to the starter solenoid (either thru the shifter micro switch or shorted if in-gear starting is desired)

I do not plan on having the neutral safety switch activated. I'd like to be able to start in gear. What wires do I need to connect to complete the circuit on this safety switch?

Thanks for the info so far. I'm so far behind on this rigging project but getting ever so close!

The harness usually has the yellow/red lead from the ket switch and the one from the engine side terminated in two bullet connectors (female I think). These two leads must connect (jumpered together) to completed the start circuit. They are normally hooked to the shifter micro switch.

Thanks guys. Connected the yellow/red wires and motor turned right over. Now have to work on wiring up the gauges, etc.

If other questions arise, I'll ask some more!

Thanks again...

There is a brown wire with a white stripe on it on my new harness that is by the main connection under the cowl. There are a few wires that plugged into my remote trim switch but this brown/white wire doesn't appear to have a home???

Any ideas?

Yours should be the same.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the help. I rig a motor about once every 4-5 years and it's like starting over every single time. All this info will get me a long way but I'm sure I'll still have a couple more questions along the way.
