Need you a test harness my dad bought a Johnson 50 i cleaned the carbs and normal water pump etc.wouldn't run crank up and slowly die went into the key switch looked like it had been messed with before someone. Had hooked the alarm wire to the enrichment post on it so if you pushed the key in and held it it would beep the alarm but it also had power going to the enrichment valve so it would run and slowly flood anyhow not sure what ya got going on you can unhook the ground from thekey switch and see what happens just don't let it bite ya good luck hope it works out

It will run in the driveway cold or or hot but was backfiring and sputtering so I'm rebuilding all three carbs and new plugs when I dropped it in the water it didnt want to run at all

i was an idiot once and crossed plug wires. ran exactly as you just described in the driveway. took me a few minutes to figure it out. sound ignition related. not fuel. doesnt hurt to have healthy, clean carbs though.
