I run mine at 32:1 when running hard or racing and at 40:1 when cruising and lake running when high speed blasts are short, like less than a mile or so.

I prefer Mercury Performance blend myself. I have 80+ hours on mine with less than 4% leakdown and the pistons only have a sheen of carbon on the face. Last time I had the reed block off the undersides shined like brand new, no "coking". I don't think that Mercury Premium or Premium plus are true performance oils. I buy Performance Blend in bulk, by the gallon at the Merc dealer. It's around $26 a gallon. Keep in mind that this is the oil that Mercury specs out for their racing engines. It's made by Spectro oils for Mercury.

That said, there are other oils that guys on here have had similar results with, like Penzoil Synthetic, Alysyn, Klotz, Amsoil (Dominator), etc. I would choose one that is readily available in your area. Walmart carries Pennzoil, for example. I think using the same oil consistently is a good practice.

If it were me and I couldn't get Merc oil, I would use Pennzoil. It's at every Walmart and guys on here have had great results with it. Jay Smith swears by it to name one of many.

Autozone and Advance Auto carry the Pennzoil Premium Plus syn blend too. Makes it real easy to get and under $20/gal.

40:1 under 8k. 32:1 8k and up. There have been more Oil threads debated than I can remember. Do a search, buy a case of beer and start reading. The Quicksilver/merc preminum is a good oil and you can't go wrong. penzoil is also good and available in Auto stores and Wally world. And you can't beat the price either.

For a performance motor like a 260, I'd stick with Merc Performance Blend (NOT the regular Premium Plus), AliSyn ProPower 21, Klotz, or Pennzoil 100% synthetic.
