Boat looks familiar. Who did you buy it from?

I got it from a Jayson cant remember his last name he got it from Clif Nixon
The boat started off as a euro ski and was in a fire and was redecked with a rocket deck if any one knows any more about it I would love to know

jeff dunn
07-09-2013, 07:51 PM
Boat was Euro, red and yellow when new, had a carb mariner. It was bought new from Jaco. Shop light was left on in seat and caught on fire . My friend Andy bought the boat and had Summford build him a new rocket deck and he finished the boat himself in his shop, which he built boats himself, after boat was fixed he ran a 2.4 on it for a few years and then he sold. When Andy had boat it was well taken care of. Looks great , the thing I don't understand is why put the Mercury stuff in the actual paint itself ? They rip everyone off for the cost of their products / parts but yet people still buy the stickers / shirts / banners and even paint it on their boats for free advertising ? I really don't get it

Da Bull
09-27-2013, 12:33 PM
It`s called "brand loyalty" and we are all guilty of it at some point. Maybe a Ford hat, NASCAR shirt or NFL logo on something. Mr Anthony has the Mercury thing on his boat. Differant strokes for differant folks and all that stuff.

That is a great looking set of billitt heads. Do you make them for sell?

Jeff, Being from Canada you really don't get it. I do so I will try to explain it. #1 This rig is proven to run best with the MERC, may be the only motor that this boat will ever have. #2 Mercury is made in America, or at the very least, an American Corp. with a long history of powering speed boats and in fact racing and winning. BTW- The dollars spent by Mercury on R&D would keep one of those Jap Whaling ships fueled up for years. #3 I would argue that Yamaha rips off every customer they have every day with their parts pricing, but to the point, Yamaha doesn't make a 300 hp sub 370 pound engine with a 20",15" or 12" mid, or a lower unit that can be surfaced like the Sportmaster lower (which this rig needs) to make it haul the mail. Merc does and have been doing it for decades.. On the other hand you want to support Yamaha, who reverse engineered ie. ripped-off the best of the Merc and OMC products to come up with what they brought to our shores 30 years ago. But nothing like a 2.5L 260/280 or a s3000Drag #4 He wants the boat to haul a$$. #5 and most important, It is his rig and he can paint it however he wants. That is WHY. Sorry if the response seems harsh. You're deluded if you think you will be capable of doing the same with off the shelf parts from any other manufacturer. Not to say it can't be done, but the list of manufacturers that make a motor that can be bolted to the transom and push this rig into the 120's without major modifications are few and far between, none hail from Canada or Japan.

Mercury Marine has fed my family and I my entire life. Growing up my dad worked for Mercury and still does today. I have spent my whole adult life working on Mercury's, and am a Mercury Master Mechanic. I can tell you that not only does Mercury build the best motors on the market, they are also very good to their employees.*

Do you have any idea how much money they have spent on r&d to bring us what we have today? Not to mention how much money is spent on liability insurance to put motors out there that they know are going to push people well over a 100 mph. At the end of the day they are in business to make money. It's not cheep to have anything that has to do with racing and as the old saying states, if you want to play with the big boys you*have to step off the porch.

I am a Mercury man at heart, but if you can show me a motor that makes as much HP per cubic inch or pound, and with as much reliability, I will give it a try. *As history has shown, Mercury has been and still is in a group of its own in the high performance boating industry.

I am proud to have Mercury painted on my rig!

You said you didn't get it, than I agreed with you and you get upset.
:nonod: WTF? I was just replying to your comment which I thought out of line.. I was even apolagetic for being harsh/sattire. Now your setting me straight. Instead of keeping your opinion of Mercury to yourself, you made it a point to bash the OP for painting on the M logo. We get a lot of you Canadians down here. You can't help where you were born I guess, or hold your tonge.
You don't know anything about me, except I didn't stand by and let you poo poo on someone else's parade.
In all seriousness, with "Yammer" as a screen name, I figured you to be a Yamaha fan. If not Mercury power nor Yamaha power then what brand would you suggest?

The Original poster cleared up why he painted "M" on the bow of his project. Couldn't have said it better, I don't know him either but I get it.

STV - Back on track, flames look absolutely real, M logo looks killer, race hatch looks like it is coming along. Nice work all the way around. Sorry for the derail, it was unintended.

Looks great , the thing I don't understand is why put the Mercury stuff in the actual paint itself ? They rip everyone off for the cost of their products / parts but yet people still buy the stickers / shirts / banners and even paint it on their boats for free advertising ? I really don't get it

You said, "I really don't get it". That is what I agree with you about. You don't get it.
The OP has put it out there as to the WHY? I did the original post as sattire.
So allow me to ask this simple question, WHY do you feel the need to post something deragatory? Is it the phenom. where you feel better about your manhood by cutting other peoples work down? Yeah, I admit it, I got a thing against the Canadians, but just one that I know of Jeff, surely they aren't all as egocentric as you. The truth hurts, but the winningest outboards on the planet don't come from Canada or Japan. Mercury comes from the USA and some from Mexico. LOL! Set the water on fire, brand loyalty and made in the USA.. If your Canadian you simply have no manufacturers bragging rights at all, kinda sucks to be Canadian I suspect. That is all I meant by it..
Sure, I changed my post. If you are going to tell it, tell the truth because I was trying to be nicer. Anything to the contrary would be a lie.
Spell check recommendation makes you sound a bit condescending.
I posted a pic of my boat so you could take pot shots at my turd, instead of commenting on this georgous STV.

Your screen name is why I picked up on Yamaha. "Yammer"? I guess not.

What did you agree with me on ?

Once again ill ill ask you . What does anything Yamaha have to do with what I posted ?
And please do us all a favour and explain your feelings about Canada and or Canadians !!!!!

By by the way : Spell check is on most electronic devices these days and has been for many years

It is ashame you didn't check your diction for: "Once again ill ill" "By by the way " and "What do you have wrong with Canadians?" I know what you were trying to say, even if it wasn't perfect. No big deal.

I must say the flames on the STV are better than anything I ever seen. Keep a fire extinguisher at the ready.. And again, I apologize. But I am done.

Jeff "Yammer"

It wasn't against the work at all !! It was a statement and a question.
So what is it that you have against Canadians as you said ? ( when in fact I think your literacy meant to say something else )
Because Mercury Marine was founded in the USA ( but at this day in age what is truly MADE in the USA doesn't mean much in the way of what you think is actually completely made in the USA. ) you truly should do yourself a favour and read a little deeper into what you would like to argue and yes ..... when debating a subject ...... if you have poor grammar and even worse writing skills it's best not to write at all. !! .
it was never a debate about anything Yamaha vs any other manufacturer at all but yet you felt the need to pursue that for what ever reason crept into your skull
The angle of the post was not about the workmanship or the boat but the wonder as to why you'd "paint" it on when they have done nothing for your build but cost you serious money ( unless they've sponsored that project )
For your information two other manufacturers were in the HP outboard business. . . one wiped Mercury all over the map at the time and the other decided it was not a good business choice to release theirs. Mercury has now realized the financial cost of HP Outboards and has seriously scaled back it's push for that as it makes them no money. You truly don't think that Mercury was or is the only people or the originators of power built high winding 2 stroke port timing do you ?
Was what I posted required ? Nope , but you and your uneducated replies have now become quite humorous

Keap onn trukkin an git'er donn son and fish on

once again I think it's a great boat and a nice project by a guy who knows his **** and is what seems to be a craftsman without a doubt.

No jig needed. The aluminum used to make the stuff is pretty soft and bends easy. Me and petehubbell just put some on his STV. It takes two people and don`t get in a hurry. Just bend a little at a time.
