For along time I have been toying with an idea and finally decided to throw it out to all the experts on this site for discussion
I have drawn up several times a jackplate that not only has vertical movement but horizontal movement and finally arrived at a point where it has no more breaking points or pieces that could fail. That is it has the same basic components of a hydro jack just redesigned to move up and down PLUS out. You would be able to tuck it in and close like 4" off the transom then when jacking you could lift it 4" and out 2-4" there is of course a small amount of added weight. I if I done my math correctly figure it would weigh approx. 6 more lbs due to added bearings and gussets.
From a performance view what pro's or con's do any of you see. I actually see several benefits but my concern is could a jackplate, motor and boat combo be propped with a jackplate that moves like this.
If I remember correctly didnt the Merc para lift move like this I do not know why they didnt make it in the performance world. Was it because of too many moving parts....not strong enough?....or to difficult to prop a boat.
If I am crazy let me know or could this be a real assett to the performance boating world

There is a mfg that makes that kind of jackplate, the name has left me for the simple reason they are very pricy.

There is a disabled man in australia that developed this type setback... I say it several years back, and it's a part that I and others have thought about many times before but he finally got down to it and devoloped a piece that works...

In regard to con's, as long as it's engineered and built well and not excessively heavy I see no acute reasons to not use it...

Porta Bracket in Edgewater , Florida Builds this unit. Very pricey but it can handle up to 5 engines also for a big boat.
