I am about to buy a 1994 2.5 EFI with a 2000 Sportmaster on it.

The gearcase was supposedly bought new, but it looks a bit strange: The rear part of the skeg is parallel to the drive shaft.

Was there ever a Sportmaster that looks like that or has it been modified or damaged somehow? (I have only seen a photo of it)

Check out Merc's site to view the 2.5's, you'll get a side profile shot of the lower unit to compare by.

The straight cut skegs are designed to be run in pairs on the same boat. One a rt. hand rotation the other a left hand rotation so they counter act the torque of each other. You can run it in a single application but you might need to add a torque tab.
