RPM working and then not working

I went out for a ride yesterday and my RPM gauge stop's and start's working constantly. I checked the wires and everything seems to be ok. The gauge is brand new it has about 3hr of run time I put my old one in and it does the same thing. Could the problem be in the control or ????

Might have a voltage regulator or rectifier about to go out or a dead short arcing somewhere.

ok I will check these componants this week. ho and for my TPS I shimmed it like you told me and it works good I can now take off plane no problem. I also got a brucato acu this week end. It was supposed to be tunned for my stock 260 but over 3000rpm it stalls. So I will send it to tony brucato to have it checked out and re-tuned for my motor.
