Airide, this is not intended as criticism, been enough of that, but some of us old guys with SLOW dial-ups take forever to download large pics. Can you resize them down to 800X600? Would still show great detail, just load a little quicker.

NOW, cool motor. When I was 16 2 friends and I had an old 2-cyl Johnny we rebuilt on a 12' skiff. I guess 45 years ago, it was a fun little boat. Probably 30 MPH

Yeah I guess those smaller motors on smaller boats are pretty slick. 60 in a 12' is probably about like 80+ in an 18.

Get some pics of that thing running. At your age, wide open at 60 degrees would probably feel good. Still a little cool for me up here in the COLD Northeast (St. Augustine, FL) but did make one pass Monday at 59.2 GPS. Would love to see your little rig Flyin'.

Have fun 'cause you only get one shot at it.

Sorry,ill make em smaller.:)

Anthony...Heres a pic of the intake you asked me for.

Travis Fulton
02-06-2003, 08:48 AM
what carbs did you use, did they help bottom end ? top end ? who built your intake, i really like the 2 and 3 cyls, i'll try to get some pix of my stuff posted, maby i'll have a new BUILT triple in a few weeks or 6, later, :D

airide18
02-06-2003, 03:36 PM
I used Plastic OMC v-6 Medium bore looper carbs,i gained around 5-7hp and it helped the topend out by gaining 2mph,and the midrange advanced to,the bottom end is awsome to but it donsnt sound crisp at the low end cause of the carbs being to big but it still is better,my father and i buildt the intake and and the special adapterr peice that allows the v-6 carbs to fit,the 2cly and 3cly are my favorite to,there easy to work on and make great power.

Travis Fulton
02-06-2003, 09:07 PM
it is amazing what kinds of hp that these motors are capable of producing!what kinds of mph are you shooting for?

airide18
02-06-2003, 09:13 PM
Im shooting for 75mph+ or so,i was talking to a freind in Ft lauderdale and he made a special nos system for these engines and hes getting rid of it so im buying it from him so that ought to boost some HP to.

Travis Fulton
02-06-2003, 09:17 PM
i am going to have a nitrox system for my triple made up as soon as the intake is finished, 60 hp is what chuck g. recommend for me, what hp set-up are you gettin, does it use alcohol to enrichen it??

airide18
02-06-2003, 09:28 PM
I think its set up for 50hp,and it uses an alchool set up also.

airide18
02-06-2003, 09:40 PM
What are you runnin your mod 3cly on?Is the motor finished or still in the worx? Are you looking for a 3cly racing LU?

Travis Fulton
02-07-2003, 09:29 PM
:D the kind of racing we do is shallow water river racing, we use 16-18' aluminum boats,i use 17' boat 48" bottom w/ center steer console, .64 thickness, the motor is still in the worx- A. mccoluch is the one who is doin it, as far as lower unit, we use a pump instead of a prop due to the shallow water. :D

airide18
02-07-2003, 09:37 PM
So what kind or racing are you doing?is it a local thing you do with your freinds.Whats anthony modifing for ya?Your running a jet drive to?

Travis Fulton
02-07-2003, 09:45 PM
the racing is held by some of the local shops,it is a legal event, i mean there is water patrol and ambulance etc. the racing is drag race, 1200 foot, no restrictions on mods, as far as the motor --- highly modified, it takes a lot of motor especially out of a 3 cyl to turn a pump to make a big diffrence.

airide18
02-07-2003, 09:50 PM
Sounds like fun, what all are you having modified?I thought you were runnin a jet drive?

Travis Fulton
02-07-2003, 09:56 PM
i am running a jet, i have a habbit of calling it a pump :D as far as the motor it is an all out drag motor , ported, exhaust chamber, carbs, intake, flywheel, reeds, reed blocks, piston mods, front mods(extensive),coatings, possibly dyno but not sure if i will be able to swing any more cash these things tend to get expensive, hope to make some big numbers w/ nitrous!!!!!!! ;) also the pump has been modified the boat leaves like it is on coke!!!!!!!! lol

airide18
02-07-2003, 10:00 PM
Sounds like your gonna be gettin some major HP.What type of carbs are you gonna run. What HP did anthony think he could get out of it?Since your running a jet drive it takes like 60% more power than a prop driven motor right?

omc-v4
02-08-2003, 09:32 AM
hey 18 what kind of l/u do you have?

airide18
02-08-2003, 09:38 AM
A sst60 gearcase, have it on a engine im selling but i can put a stock case and sell it with that if i find someone to buy it.

boataddict26
02-08-2003, 09:48 PM
Travis, What kind of speed do you expect to get?

airide18
02-08-2003, 09:59 PM
There jon boats right?

Travis Fulton
02-08-2003, 10:13 PM
yes they are jon boats, thats such a ****ty word for em but its what we race:D as far as speed i know its not fast by your standards but rember we use a jet not a prop, am hoping to get around 53+!! maby?? i would like to run w/ the v-4's we'll see? they have been running around 48 somewhere in there, but this is a extensivly modified triple w/ nitrous!! not bragging just a little more insane than some!:D

Travis Fulton
02-08-2003, 10:19 PM
oh yea about the boats they are not off the shelf sleds, they are custom ordered from the guage metal of each and every piece from the transom and the knee braces down to the floor braces every piece is specified to the customers own preference, then after i brought it home i wet sanded every square inch of the outside from 800-2000 then buffed my ass off for about 2 weeks until the outside looks like chrome, so its not bad for a JON-BOAT :D

boataddict26
02-08-2003, 10:24 PM
Sounds sweet!! Do you have any close up pics.??

Travis Fulton
02-08-2003, 10:27 PM
no not yet, i am in the market for a dig cam but i will try to get my bud to take som pix in the next day or 2 :p

airide18
02-08-2003, 10:44 PM
Well it sound like you have a get rig,i had a jon boat, sold it to the garbage man for 150 2 weeks ago.Actually BA did;)

Travis Fulton
02-08-2003, 11:03 PM
garbage man OUCH that hurts:D ha ha lol!

airide18
02-08-2003, 11:07 PM
Yeah he pointed to it and i said 150yyy for the boat 150 yyy for the trailor.hahahaha

Travis:

Do you race up on the Current river?

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 07:32 AM
yes we do a-lot of racing on the current but the regular "legal" the racing events that are held every year (annual jet boat races) are over at the gasconade over around a town called vichy thats about 45 miles from where i live:D

airide18
02-09-2003, 09:47 AM
How shallow is the water your runnin in.A John boat has to be a hairy ride at 50mph.

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 10:22 AM
i can and have ran sholwels as shallow as 4" but not w/ my new boat i would like it to last at least 1 year! and as far as a harry ride!!! thats to say the least, every time the boat lands it walks some sideways, then the opposite direction back and forth ! it is quite a rush for me, these things leave like a rubberband! they usually leave the water during launch at least a couple times then once on plane it's trim trim trim until you think it is bouncing almost 2 hard, but i have found that the boat is actually picking up speed (on the gps) when it is sliding!!! its a blast i am not sure if i will have any sanity left whyl waiting for my motor project:D to be completed!!!!!!!

airide18
02-09-2003, 10:26 AM
My first boat was a 14ft jon boat, great boat ,went through alot of storms of the coast(5ft seas).I loved jumping off the coast while scaloping, lots of fun until the rivets started poping out and the boat started to bow in the middle.hahahaha:D

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 10:28 AM
oh yea to let you know just how poessed i have gotten w/ this new to me sport i have been on a diet for 4 months lost 84 pounds as of this morning,!!!! trying to loose as much weight as i can before the races!! even though i needed to loose some the races are my main concern though!!!!!!less weight = speed ;)

airide18
02-09-2003, 10:35 AM
Thats insane,so these aliminum boats will run in excess of 50mph?What engines is most of the other racers using?

gaineso
02-09-2003, 10:35 AM
Travis, I guess I need to take up river racing. Don't want to lose 80 lbs, but 50 wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

airide18
02-09-2003, 10:38 AM
So do these jon boats have tunnles or plain flat bottms?

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 11:08 AM
these boats are flat bottoms, i had 6 keel breaks put in this one, there are some motors of all sizes from 40-225 hp. some of them w/ big motors are runnin low 60's but they are using bigger boats like 18 19 20 footers with wide bottoms starting at 50" and wider they think that they are faster but opinions vary... :) so we will see come race day!!!

airide18
02-09-2003, 11:12 AM
So the classes range in size or power range?

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 11:15 AM
they start out by hp. and the winner from that class goes up to the next class and so on.. so i could run the fastest 40 and maby if my boat runs i could run 90's and who knows???

airide18
02-09-2003, 12:02 PM
Whats the prize?Or is it just respect as the fastest J-boat driver:D

boataddict26
02-09-2003, 01:47 PM
It sounds like a blast!! Airide, we may have to look into this!! Wonder if they have any races here in Florida?

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 03:06 PM
the only prize is a trophy:( but you said it !!!! respect!! there is a fuy i am itching to beat he is very arrogant and needs a good beating!:D but as far as i know up to now no one has gone to the extreme i am trying to go along w/ anthony's help!!

airide18
02-09-2003, 07:07 PM
What Hp do you think your gonna get outof it?

airide18
02-09-2003, 07:17 PM
WEll jow much without the nitrous,it is a 3cly right?Thats alot of HP for a 3cly,should fly,im sure it would go faster than 60mph with 200hp weighing less than 215lbs for the engine.

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 07:27 PM
well i'm at 41 mph on the gps now w/ a stock 3 banger so i should increase a bit but it takes a **** load of power to turn a jet pump! i'll be estatic w/ 50+ mph i would absolutly flip if i went 55 + and w/ 60 i would be known as the KING of the jet boats around here!:D i had better not get my expectations up 2 much i havent even got my mota back yet, oh it could make as much as 150 on race gasw/ no nitrous probally could make more w oxygenator !!??????????????????????????????????????

gaineso
02-09-2003, 07:37 PM
Jet Dr.

I have seen videos of some of those things, outboard and inboard. Makes Evel Knievel jumpin' the Grand Canyon look like backyard stuff. If I was 30 years younger I'd probably think it was fun, but for now I think I'll stick to bass fishin'. At my age bones don't heal well or fast.

If you get some videos, post them. Sometimes max speed ain't what makes the race exciting, it's the conditions you're racing in. Get some pics at least.

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 07:42 PM
i will try to get some pix soon! i havent got my new cam yet, but thats soon too. the excitement for me is in the launch! as soon as the 1st race i will have tons of videos and pix win or lose ?? lets none of my bones will need any healing!:D this thred is definatly gettin me PUMPED!

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 07:49 PM
i need to say that sone credit is due to anthony! for taking this project it is sorta a bastard project as the torque curves and everything is totally diffrent! he is well versed and very knowledgable and has spent quite a bit of time w/ me on the phone and computer making decisions and i am sure he wants this thing to preform as well as i do!:D as of right now i would recommend anyone w/ one of the 2 or 3 cyls thats wants preformance give him a call! i think that you will think his thoughts and ideas are cutting edge and also he has motas to back em up! i'm sold

airide18
02-09-2003, 07:58 PM
Well i hope you run 65+ and beat them all.lol

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 08:11 PM
pray for me airide!!!!!!!! lol-brotha ;)

airide18
02-09-2003, 08:14 PM
I will, anthony should do a great job,i think you will deffinetly be the top dawg if hes modifying your ride.

Travis Fulton
02-09-2003, 08:18 PM
i would like to see one of his all out 3 bangers (w/prop) on your boat, i bet it would be a tricky driving experience

airide18
02-09-2003, 08:25 PM
Me 2.:D

boataddict26
02-09-2003, 08:54 PM
Would have to make sure to have a change of pants at the boat ramp!!:D ;)

airide18
02-09-2003, 09:03 PM
The jon boat wouldnt be able to ride with a engine and those speeds, wouldnt be controlable,

Travis Fulton
02-10-2003, 07:28 PM
what a thread!:D at thoes speeds on a jon boat ?? that would be some kind of world record?!;) probally would flip they are UN-STABLE at best!

Travis Fulton
02-10-2003, 07:29 PM
hey B.A. what kind of boat u got ?? what kind are ya gettin if u dont have 1 yet?

boataddict26
02-10-2003, 07:43 PM
I have an Airide Powerboat. The same as Airide 18s. It is 12 feet long, and mine is powerd by a mod. 25hp Johnsom. Airide has the mod 50. I am going to upgrade to a bigger engine as soon as I finish pimping out my truck.

Travis Fulton
02-10-2003, 07:47 PM
you aught to try anthonys 45ss that he had for sale from what i here it is better than new and clean as a pen!!! i would say that would make the 12 footer haul balls!! how does it run w/ the 25?

boataddict26
02-10-2003, 07:53 PM
Right now my truck is draining my pockets!!:D ;) I dont have the extra money for the 45ss, but I think that is what Airide18 is upgrading to. I may get his 50.
On a good day, I may see the high 40's. 47-48, with the 25. Hopin to get 80 outa the boat one day when I can invest in a motor. One of the boats we sold has seen the middle 90's!!!! It was rigged with nitrous.:)

airide18
02-10-2003, 08:02 PM
Yeah ive already talked to anthony numerous times about the 45ss he has,im gonna try and buy it before he sells it,should make the boat run High 70's after we get done with it,gonna try and rig a nitrous system that a freind is selling up to it.

airide18
02-11-2003, 07:46 PM
The intake.

airide18
02-11-2003, 07:53 PM
Side of V-6 intake.

Travis Fulton
02-14-2003, 08:07 AM
airide, did that intake set your reeds back (stuff) any? if so how much?

airide18
02-14-2003, 11:39 AM
What do you mean by them being set back?

Mark75H
02-14-2003, 03:11 PM
Move them closer to the crankshaft to reduce the crankcase volume, that's what Travis is asking.

Travis Fulton
02-14-2003, 05:22 PM
that is what i ment!!:)

airide18
02-14-2003, 07:29 PM
Yes.

Travis Fulton
02-16-2003, 03:18 PM
airide what do you guys do there, race, pleasure, are there any classes you compete in? ;)

airide18
02-16-2003, 05:51 PM
Well we used to have a class specially for them in Ft ,lauderdale and it was a specialty class, they were raced with modified 25hp engines, and all the hulls were produced by Airide Powerboats, great class lots of fun,but since i moved up to High Springs i havent been racing them, and have since stoped making the hulls.

Travis Fulton
02-16-2003, 08:47 PM
sounds like fun, whats up are you liquidating all your spare mota stuff???;)

airide18
02-16-2003, 08:49 PM
Well thats just my junk stuff, ive got like 3 more sets of shelves like that.:)

Travis Fulton
02-19-2003, 08:46 AM
thats a- lot of extra stuff!! my collection of parts continues to grow but i am needing some extra rods and at least 1 more 56ci crank! but am always looking for other stuff!! oh i also am needing the complete wiring for under the hood of a mota 3 cyl less the power pack and coils?? got any or know of any good deals??:D

airide18
02-19-2003, 11:20 AM
Yeah,but i wish it was all 45ss stuff.:D

Travis Fulton
02-22-2003, 08:19 PM
airide, what did you do to your tuner(mods)??

airide18
02-22-2003, 08:20 PM
I shortened it 2" and bored the inside out a little and smothed the edges.

Travis Fulton
02-22-2003, 08:24 PM
what gains did it give u? rpm, torque, i have always heard that a tuner mod isint all that valuable or there is no such thing as a magic tuner scerete but everybody is moding them!;)

airide18
02-22-2003, 08:28 PM
Whoever told you that is full of BS,cause thats where most of the HP comes from, you can gain up to 10hp with a aftermarket tuner or the right tuner mod,i gained 400rpm and helped the Hp out by about 3-4 hp

airide18
02-22-2003, 08:29 PM
The shorter it is the more RPM,the longer the more top end you get,the 45ss tuner is supposed to foul the engine into doing both.

Travis Fulton
02-22-2003, 08:32 PM
i knew it had to help cuz everybody is doin it!!! but just wanted to hear what it did for your 2 cyl. 400 rpm is quite a bit! who makes aftermarket tuners for 2&3 cyls?? or do they have 2 b custom made? or maby you could use a 45ss tuner? aaaaaahhhhhhhh:confused:

Travis Fulton
02-22-2003, 08:34 PM
would the short tuner give more torque then wouldent it?

airide18
02-22-2003, 08:34 PM
Anthony does tuner mods also!!!!I dont think theres any aftermarket tuners for 2&3 clyyinders but i know there are for every other v-6 v-8 and v-4s

airide18
02-22-2003, 08:35 PM
Yeas you should get more torque with that pump mota.:D ;)

Travis Fulton
02-22-2003, 08:39 PM
just curious?! he's puttin a expansion chamber on the outside of the mid on the pump motor   that will definatly turn heads down here!

Travis Fulton
02-22-2003, 08:41 PM
if the way it looks dosent get attention i'm sure the noise it makes will ?? i hope! i like em LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D ;)

airide18
02-22-2003, 09:44 PM
I would run an expansion chamber but i dont think it would be strong enough in the wave umping department.

I am interested in motors used in se or fe racing. Does any one know which mdls. and ser/# of 45 and49 cu. in. engies are used? thanks

Mark75H
02-28-2003, 11:42 PM
All of the 49's and 44's can be used. Certainly if you intend to do the least work yourself you would want a 75 hp 49ci.

airide18
03-01-2003, 01:30 PM
The 44ci's are my favorite mod motors,i like the 44's better cause they are lighter and can make the same Hp with just more mods, and the 49's are heavyer but can make a little more power than the 44's but why wouldnt you just jump to a v-4 if you were gonna do that?Im just partial to the 44ci.lol;)

Mark75H
03-01-2003, 02:32 PM
Richard is thinking of real racing in APBA or AOF, thats why he's asking about the 44s & 49s and not 56s or V-4s

Only the 44s and 49s are legal in Formula E and SE

airide18
03-01-2003, 02:47 PM
Go with a 44ci and talk to anthony and he'll set you up with a Bada$$ FEH engine,he could get you 100hp with a 44.Im modifiy mine for 85hp then gonna rig it for Nitrous.:D Im picking it up at the Winter NAt's in Ococee.Cant wait.:(

03-01-2003, 03:14 PM
Thanks guys an awful lot of very useful info. Sam is rite i want make a legal motor for Aof NBRA. A Neihbor had a small marina and gave me several of each. Trying to figure best to build. P.S. Would like to know when those jets are going to race.

airide18
03-01-2003, 05:14 PM
If you have any 44ci for sale i might be interested in them.

hey guys,
as some of you know i am running a 3cyl on my delta. I have a few spare parts and was wondering what different types of heads were made for these motors. I have 2 heads that are compleatly different. One head looks like the ordinary heads i see all over this site but the other has something that looks like an inlet down to where the plug comes though the head. Its hard to explain but i will try to take some pics today and post.

I am curious to see what this head is/does.

Pete,

Are the chambers shaped kinda like a "Z"?

Pete
08-21-2004, 11:41 AM
yea their somewhat shaped like 'Z'.

i think my mom took the digital camera for the weekend so i should have pics by next week

Hey David, I thought you were a merc man!.
or are you thinking of makin the switch???

p.s. did you ever get your new mod boat?

David_L6
08-21-2004, 12:35 PM
Pete,

Those heads are from the older model motors. There is no advantage to them. Pitch 'em.

Jeff,

Not switching! I've learned a good bit about OMC motors while chasing SE/FE parts for Rotten Ralph plus my Dad has always run them on his fishing boats. I like them fine for fishing boats. They are very reliable and get pretty good fuel milage (but they are heavy).

I never did get a boat. I gave up on Jim Apel after he lied to me about delivery date(s) (more than once!). The last date was June 30. As of July 3, he hadn't even started building the boat yet.

Jeff Akers
08-21-2004, 01:11 PM
yep, your right HEAVY and FAST!!

Sorry about the boat deal. to bad, Jim makes some nice boats. they look fast just sitting there. Got any thing else in the works?.

How's Rotten Ralphs motor and exhast working out?.
Got any pics of that thing?

Jeff,

I've talked to Matt Arlte about a boat, but I'm not sure if he's going to stay in the boat building business or not. (see: http://www.hydroracer.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3440)
I haven't talked to any other boat builders this year (besides the Walla Walla Weasel. :( :( )

Ralph hasn't put the motor together yet that the Nydahl exhaust is going on. The motor that he's currently running has an exhaust system that's very similar to one of the systems that Hustler (Tim Snider - snitimang@aol.com) makes, but was made by the machinist that used to do some (all?) of Kenny Bayers work. It's just a sideplate with a 3 into 1 elbow (like a 2 into 1 elbow for a 4 cyl. Merc, but 3 into 1). No megaphone or chamber or anything past the elbow. There's really nothing "trick" about it.

I don't know what makes that motor so fast, but fast it is. Ralph has won the NBRA Nationals in SE Runabout the last 3 years and SE Hydro in 2002 and 2003. He probably would have won the hydro this year also, but his turn fin bracket broke in the first turn of the first heat. (He started 5th and went into the first turn in 1st.) He also won the AOF Nationals in both SE hydro and SE runabout in 2003. The AOF hasn't had their 2004 Nationals yet.

I may have some pics around here somewhere. If I don't, I can take pics of the motor the next time I'm at Ralph's. What would you like to see? There's not much to be seen from the outside (I can't tear it down to take pics of the internals! ;) ). Stock carbs, ignition, and flywheel, the exhaust I described above, and a 55H lower unit. I can't remember if it's on an aluminum O'Brien tower or a homemade steel tower...

as far as pictures go i just like to see what other guys are doing with their motors. I'm still new at this mod stuff and just looking at as mutch as i can!.

aerj, I like the carbs on your motor!. I was thinking of doing that before I found out the rules for FE. glad to see someone did it!

the reed blocks are stock with Boysen two stage reeds.i haven't run the motor yet,i'm waiting to have the little allison painted to start rigging it.i'm kind of anxious to see how the motor runs.i've got a 15" mid and a nitro gearcase for it along with a sst 60 cowl and pan.i also found an in the box unused 23 pitch Second Effort cleaver for it.
