Mercury Switch box A14 or A12?

Got a 260 that revs over 9000. The switch boxes I got our A14s and was wondering if A12s would work?

Whats the difference between the A12 vs. A14

I've turned a12's a touch over 9 without any problems............. (avatar motor)

a well known odba racer's mechanic said the 14s will turn higher rpms.
they were testing the day he said that.
one of the boats with a wildly modified engine would start missing at high rpms.
if you're not racing, probably not necessary.
