Any performance outboard gatherings or enthusiasts? Moving near the Adrian area and remember boating in the Irish Hills back in the 80's. Remember performance boats hanging out on Wamplers lake. Want to run a Viper with a V6.

There are a few gatherings here in MI. Wamplers is still on of the first meets of the year usually in mid May. The next big on coming up will be Marble Lake thats July 13. Thats always a good turn out with drag racing. Then there is Oscoda Foote Pond thats July 27. Not much for the month of AUG. The Big Hot boat meet is at Hardy Dam Hot Boat Weekend Sept 6-8. Thats the best one of the year hands down. Then theres Secord Lake meet Sept 22. Hope to see you at some of the meets.

You're moving to my neck of the woods! Where exactly? I'm at Loch Erin, just a few miles south of Wamplers. I have the only performance boat on the entire lake here.

Agreed with what was already mentioned above...

There's not much of a "local" hot boat scene here. Michigan Hot Boats comes out to Wamplers at the beginning and end of the season, but they're mostly car-motor guys-- jets, v-drives, etc. I was just there over the weekend with my family.

Marble Lake's big July date is awesome. There are also several Friday evening drag race nights where you can grudge race for free, legally.

Hardy Dam Pond is a nice place to visit on any given summer weekend. The weekend after Labor day each year is the big turn-out. Search for "Hardy Party" for a better idea of what happens there. There's a few guys from Lansing who go there regularly.

Give me a shout when you get into town. Chad 5174425006

There's 10 plus hot boats up here on Secord. You can come up and run with us anytime.

Awesome, thanks! Won't be moving until this fall and my Viper project isn't finished yet. Looking forward to making some new friends as there isn;t much action down here near Indianapolis. I will have a Deerfield mailing address.

If you are near Waterford you can always put in on Cass Lake. It is a pretty good sized lake with a few go fasts, and my Cat ................ Good luck with the move, Bill

If you're looking for a calm spot to setup and test your boat, I live on a 640 acre private lake... I can pull strings and get you launched here next season when you get the boat put together. It would be neat to have another 'Stream pulled up at the island next to mine. ;)

You can count on that! I not only need to test, but need to learn how to drive a v-pad boat. Been driving air entrapment hulls for the past 30 years. Will an offshore mid be a problem?

An offshore mid is not a problem on Secord. Here's a quick video of us running in the morning.

The Saginaw River is a great place to learn, one big straightaway all the way to Bay City and back.

Will do, and thanks! Do they still run the snowmobile drags during the tip-up festival on Devils Lake in Feb.? Went to the festival a couple winters ago and there were only hovercrafts running on the partially frozen lake. I recall some serious competition there back in the 80's..........some very innovative 2-strokes back then!

For years, the Michigan Cup grass drags were held in October here in Onsted, a half-mile from my house. I guess some politics got the races cancelled in 2011 and 2012.

Tom, are they coming back this year?

The thing to watch out for in SE Michigan is those 100mph 75 mph jet boats. >:)

If it looks fast and makes a big "car motor" noise, it must be fast.
A longer nose improves aerodynamics and increases speed.

Easy now. Some of us can run 78mph.

Some of us can run 90+, even without the laughing gas. ;)

(Aaron's got a pretty bad-ass car-motor boat. :D He runs at Wamplers and Marble all the time.)

Aaron, you live in Adrian, right?

Chad 90+mph in 800ft or 3miles ??

pyro

80 in 800 feet (on a short prop)
90+ in a half-mile (I remember your excuses... "my pump was sucking air...")
95 with the back seat removed and 1/4 tank fuel.

You got me pretty good in a grudge drag at Marble lake. I couldn't hang. I don't tell lies, and I will take my spanking if I've got one coming. :D

Search YouTube for "Vegas XT MPH" and watch the top two search results. ;)

Chad, stopped by and drove around Loch Erin this evening. That's quite a community there! Looked like some nice straight away areas to get some good gps runs. Not sure my offshore mid would be very welcomed though? Checked out Sand Lake too but thought it would be too small.

Sand lake is pretty big, but very "round" with lots of shallows.

Here's the GPS track from a quick run this evening on Loch Erin. Lots of boat traffic, so I didn't make any wicked passes. Ran over 85 a few times, where the track is red.

Finally got to Michigan and all my boating equipment too. Looking forward to getting a new shop built so I can finish my Hydrostream Viper. Had a chance to "cruise" around and check out a couple of the local lakes. Checked out Sand lake and Lock Erin. May look at doing some river boating down on the Maumee river too, as there is a decent stretch of water from Grand Rapids to Defience. Stoked for the 2014 boating season!!

If you like a "slow" river cruise on smaller waters, the Huron River chain of lakes is a good day trip, but there's only one public launch, and parking is limited. visit the Zukey Lake tavern if you have a local or a bottom chart with you to show you the shallow spots in that lake.

Also, the Coldwater chain... Home to Marble Lake and Corn Island.

Yes, come to the State Park. If you arrive before noon and the place looks empty, proceed to the far North end of the big parking lot-- there's a short driveway that leads to the launch area. Everyone's usually parked there hanging out for a while before launching. Usually this late in the season, the swim buoys are gone, so we can take over the public beach area.

It's 5 minutes from my house. 'Rider, you can ride in my boat if you want, but I can only stay until 2pm or so... Going to Lansing later in the day for family fun and heavy drinking at the in-laws' place.

I'll be at the launch lot around 10:30 or 11.
Mother-in-law's birthday is Saturday. My wife is trying to stop me from going boating before we leave to go there.

Looks like I will need to be off the water by 2 pm. :(
