Motor came to me with very little compression on bottom 2 holes. Tore motor down and find it is a .020 motor in all 4 holes and the bottom 2 are trash. Sleeving looks to be a real chore on one of these so I bored the bottom 2 holes to .040 and installed Wiseco pistons (only ones available) and new rings only on the top 2 cylinders. Due to the fact that both bottom cylinders were toast I decided to take carbs apart assuming one of them, the bottom one of course, was full of crud. Turned out both carbs were spotless so I reassembled them. Went to start boat and gas is running out of the front of each carb.
The enrichner valve is unlike any I have dealt with before. Hooks directly to the stator and there is no connector in the engine end of the wiring harness for the choke button. I assume this means the enrichner is automatic or normally open and closes when the motor starts. Is this a correct assumption? I found a little bit of rubber in the bowls (which previously were clean) so I switched out all the rubber lines both supply and recirc. Took carbs apart and they were just like they have been all 3 times they have been disassembled this past week, very clean with nothing apparent that would cause them to leak. Disassmbled the enrichner valve and it was very clean also. My feable little brain is now telling me we have a bad enrichner that is dumping tons of fuel and that is why it will not stay running and also why there is gas coming out of the carbs, maybe. If the gas coming out of the carbs is the enrichner then how is it getting past the throttle plates?
I have also determined I am way to old and no longer flexible enough to work on anything but outboards. All you guys working on IOs and any other inboard has my sympathy.
