Got a question
first 95 merc 60 bigfoot I've had since new
well maintained in good shape
i haven't used it in two years i ended upwith cdi box failure

Boat eas stored properly so this year i decide to use it again
fixed ignition fired it up ran good
drained complete fuel system new hoses etc
Took it out have a stumble so going to do carb cleaning ck of fuel pump but expected that no biggie

My question is im also do for new prop and in doing all this want to optimize the tune up on it get most i can then get right size prop
pulling carbs so thinking new boysen reeds
i do alot of trolling and these should maintain good low response
yes/no ?

Next has anyone tried rejetting the carbs im not concerned with fuel useage are these like most factory engines alittle on conservative side?

Now the one that stumps me
Just doesnt make sense
Ive built alot of engines cars bikes etc plus tuning so i understand except 2 stroke so is there something going on that make the ignition timing so different spec for this one is 0-6 Atdc at idle to 24btdc wot throttle
WHAT REALLY
seemslike there detuning this thing or is there some other principle here
would think you want atleast 2 ° btdc at idle and more like 30 bftdc full throttle
Ideas? Explain?
Thanks

They know what they are talking about with the timing specs. If you want to go 30 at WFO you better be running some of that $10.00 a gallon Sunoco 260 race fuel. 24 is possibly pushing it but should be okay. Those engines don't run like a 4 stroke car or bike. Idle to half or slightly more throttle is all done with spark and then you start to open the carbs. That 60 Bigfoot is NOT a performance motor. It's a workhorse. And it should troll like a champ dead stock. Don't try to mod it. Enjoy it for what it is.

I hear you
Gonna probably just maximize the spec and try it
it says 0-6atdc and 20-24 btdc
so ill set it 0& 24
once i get other items done
