I have found a Yamaha 250 model # V6EXCELLG, does anyone know anything about these motors. Any info would be great.

It's a 225 and if they are in good shape they tend to be good solid performers...but it is at least 24 years old.

I think it may be a good pickup if I can talk them to the right price. I found out by running the numbers its a 88 model. Is there a market to play with these motors and would it be worth trying to pick up this motor. I just don't know anything about these motors and don't want a yard ornament. The owner stated it pushed a shadow tunnel boat 93mph.

I have a 1990 version of that motor and it pushed my SRV to 93....it is definitely more at home on a lighter boat (if you're expecting to run in the 90's). They are the best version of the Yamaha 2.6 and you can still get parts and some hi-po aftermarket stuff...not that anyone makes much for Yamaha. What are you putting it on?

19'8" javelin bass boat maybe, its about 1600 lbs. I also have a legend and a winner I may put it on with the winner being the lightest.

Any clue on value. They are asking $1900 for it but I'm thinking $1000. NADA value of it is $590 but I say $1000 is fair for a motor that has sat for a little while if I can at least get a compression test on it first and maybe hear it bust off once.

Everything is cheaper down there....in my eyes a running V6 in reasonable condition is worth $2k everyday...

Compression is staggered in that motor so you'll see it vary more than the traditional 10%...

Are most of the parts interchangeable with newer model motors like lower units, heads, and ignition system. Sorry for all the questions but I'm not familiar with the older Yamaha stuff at all.

i like mine ;) i was told they had issues with corrosion if they were used in salt water,, mine was a fresh water motor and is pretty clean for a 23 year old motor,, doktor c swapped the mid on mine for me,, he is the man!!!.. imo if its clean buy it!! you wont find a stronger 225 for the price..
