Is it possible to put a 300xs power head on a 300 pro max mid? I'm sure it wont line up correctly or will it? And if not, can you make an adapter for it?

Yes, it will work. All you need is an XS powerhead ( i know where a bunch of drop-ons are ) and a 300xs exhaust adapter plate. You already have the potatoes of the project- you just need the meat.

This caught my eye. So, you can drop a 300xs powerhead onto an existing 300x mid? I just cooked my 300x, and the fuel milage is way better with the XS. Where can I research this further? Interested!

Hey Adam .... I'm listening. Which cowl do you run? Can you modify a 300xs split lower housing to fit a 300 promax mid?

Hey Stephen! Cowl-X. Im not sure what you mean about your second question. Split lower housing? Do you mean the split lower skirt?

I'm guessing a cowl-x is a cutom cowl that fits the promax bowl? Yes could a guy notch or cut the split lower housing to fit a promax leg and use the 300xs cowl? Thanx Steve

Cowl X meant stock X cowl or promax cowl. you could use the 2 piece skirt from an XS since the X adapter plate has the " ring" to except the skirt gasket however some trimming would be required to the skirt and honestly would look pretty bad since the X exhaust housing is so fat and none of the lines would match up.
I just finished another 15" mid I built it for my 300XS . All new stock Merc parts w/ a Taylor exhaust housing. Nothing is cut or chopped. The 15" swivel bracket is from a 200XS ROS since it uses the same trim sender.

To anyone doing the conversion from an X to XS powerhead- make sure you pickup either a stock XS tuner or a DBR tuner.
I would not recommend cutting a stock XS tuner if you have a 15" mid... go with the DBR tuner.

10-4 on the look bad. So, a 300xs will fit under a 300 or 300x cowl?

Let's see some nice closeups of your 15" motors.

So, a 300xs will fit under a 300 or 300x cowl?

you will need to trim the inner liner in a stock cowl to clear the air compressor.

Thanx Todd, then a 300xs will bolt on to my 300 promax mids and fit in their cowls with a little trim work in the compressor area.

So were talking 300pm converted with a drop on 300XS right. Not 300X though this would also work for the 300X? Just seeing if I got this correct. I wouldnt need a Taylor mid for the 300PM though to go 15 from 20 its a good way to go over cutting. Also is there weight savings useing a 300PM mid over the stock 300xs mid? Im guessing going taylor 15 inch mid would be the lightest way to go. Also can the 300PM stock trim pump work with the 300XS drop on?

Todd D

You are correct the 300 Pro Max and 300X mids are the same. The Taylor mid is built the same. Not sure about the weight savings.... if I remember correct the 15 taylor can is the same as the 300PM/300x can and they are more than a 300xs. The 3 ram trim will not work with the 15" Tayor can.

Yes, the 28 has 300 pm's, if I could just put 300xs drop-ons and carve my cowls a little, I'd be a real happy camper.

Adam, I coulda swore I heard you talking about some 300xs drop-ons that were available.

Is that real complicated, I have a hammer. (opti water pickup?) I'm familiar with the 300pm, not the opti.

Stephen, hammers are best used to fix Evinrudes :) If using the X adapterplate- where the 3/4" plug is on the left side you will need to plumb two lines ( one to the fuel rail, one to the compressor ) into the adapter plate. You will also need to swap the long motor studs over from the X to the XS.

Adam, thats good news, I didn't think you could fix an Evinrude. ;)

10-4 on the water plumbing, Do you know anyone that wants to give away some powerheads? Thanx

Hi all, I know this is an old thread but I am looking to do a similar conversion (optimax into 300x mid). I am using a 300xs exhaust plate, so have no issues with picking up the water for the compressor and fuel rail dump. My issue is the routing of these hoses through the 300x lower pan or (stainless steel) mounting plate. Does anyone have any pictures of where/how they have cut the 300x lower pan/plate to get the hoses through? Thanks

Drill 2 holes on the inside wall of the pan below the stainless pan.
