1977 85 hp Evinrude

I am trying to drop the lower unit to replace the water pump. I have all the bolts are out of the lower unit and the linkage is unhooked. The lower unit will not come off. Am I missing something? This thing is killing me.

----------4 bolts on the sides and 2 on the bottom. Did you remove the screw at the upper shift rod completely, if so give it a few bops side to side with a rubber hammer. :)

Bolt on rod shaft is that the bolt that hooks to the linkage?

The shift shaftl screw bolt,,at the shift linkage, at front lower of bottom cylinders:)

Yes, I have had that bolt out, and it still acts like it is hung up in the front. It's rubber hammer time.

Could it be in gear and that's why it won't drop
