Jean Dupuy was not a fan of dual prop or tractor lower units, so he did away with the Soriano's original lower unit designed by Paul Bonnemaison and built the long single prop unit. The rear seals never worked well on them so the usual way they ran was to fill the whole unit with oil and let it leak out as you ran and refill for the next heat. I think they held over 2 gallons. I don't think these motors are currently allowed in California or on Lake Tahoe.
Dupuy was one of the first outboard racers to use a tall skid collar on his vest which was also one of the first impact resitant vests. Of course he was hitting the incredible upper 70 mph range when most other racers were dreaming of 50 mph.
