Just found this website from an ad I've been saving.

http://www.lymanboat.com/

These things were the ****!!
I grew up terrorizing Sandusky Bay which is part of Lake Erie where these things were built (back in the day).
These things are the best rough water boat foot for foot of any boat afloat!
Not sure if it's the dead rise/flare of the bow, but you have to watch one run to believe it.
They were designed for the waters of Lake Erie which is almost always 2' or 3' footers (when it's smooth)which don't sound too bad, but their 3 freakin feet apart!! They have beat many a boat into submission! Almost 3 to 5's as often.
I remember having my 19' Glastron Carlson O/B up there one Summer and were just going to "the islands" which are only 3 or 4 miles form main land.
Well the lake is rolling a fairly typical 3 to 4' and my boat is doing O.K. (about 20 MPH's) as long as I run between the waves.
Anyhow, I catch out the corner of my eye, this 19 freakin foot Lyman passing me!
Clearly it was a much better rough water boat then mine, but I said no F*&%^g way this is going to happen!
I just about pound my boat to tooth picks to be able to pull into the harbor just barely ahead of this Lyman!
I watched this damn boat the whole time, and I swear it never moved!!
The bow threw freakin water every where but the GD boat never moved!! Not a drop of water into the cockpit either.
Awesome, awesome boats!
One of my projects before I die will be one of the 13' or 15's with old twin O/B's on it.
I swear if I had to weather a killer storm on that lake I would take a 21' Lyman over a 40' Bertram!!
Neighbor that docked beside my parents in that era had a 19' inboard that they let me use.
Had an in-line 6 flat head with a chrome sfift lever about 4 feet tall and the throttle was a lever in the center of the wheel.
If you ever get the chance to ride in one, do it!
Just make sure it's rough:D
Not sure if any of you guys like wooden boats or not, but they are (were) the ****!

The company struggled to compete agaiunst plastic boats until the very end.
They closed their doors and then some investors from Cleveburg bought the rights to them and tried converting to glass.
Their inboard attempts proved that glass cannot and will not do what wood did.
The biggest mistake they made was trying to run I/O's also.
That moved the center of gravity too far back and totally ruined their ride.
They rode/ran like a typical glass I/O but no where close to a Lyman!
They only surivived a couple more years before dying for good in the early 90's.
Factory still stands in down town Sandusky.

There are quite a few up here that are used almost every weekend. A friend of mine has a wooden boat shop that did
a total restore on a 16' Lyman last year $ 30,000.00

Nice lil boat !!!

several people/shops specializing in them up on the Lake in my area too.
If you like cruisers, they used to build a 28' and 30' express bridge w/twin inboards that are freakin gorgeous!!
There is tow of them cruie together that I see all the time at Pelle Island.
They'll come over with 10 people on each boat and "Stroh a Party"!
Freakin gorgeous boats!
