View Full Version : cheap solution on the duramax problem
i was heading to st pete last night and bam 2 miles from the house the power falls off and the light comes back on
well after running up to st rd 64 @ no more then 65 mph no more then 1900 rpm and struggling to climb the over passes
i decided to wip in and add some two stroke oil to it and top it back off
well here we go back on the big road heading for the skyway and much to my surprise its running great 2300 rpm and sounded great felt great
it dont have the power it had when new but its drivable you have some decent power if needed to pass etc
i forget who told me about this i never added that much to it but it likes it so i can travel now with adding some 2 stroke oil to it
thanks
keep your fingers crossed maybe it will clear up now and stay running nice

I use 1oz per/gal in every tank... Mine is a 2001 5.9 cummins, and my model year had a less than desirable injector pump so the 2-stroke oil adds a little lube where the low sulfur fuel leaves off... As was recommended to me..

That 2 stroke oil must be tricking the Duramax into thinking it's an old Detroit Diesel. ;)

Scott I have a lb7 duramax myself... and the 2stroke will help for awhile BUT you need to replace your FPR!!!! I know you have one sitting in the shop... its time consuming but not really that hard.... swap it out and you may, just like that chevy again!

if I remember right your rig has @ 200k give or take... if you can, I would replace the pump while your in there.... or at least find someone local with EFI live or a teck2 scanner to check your fuel rail pressure... (commanded vs actual ) this will give you some idea of the condition of the pump... I don't pretend to be an expert but I do keep mine running strong, if I can be any help just let me know!
its only got 120,000 i think alby did the command on it last time he had it hooked up what a differnace by just adding the oil its almost back to full power at least half as good as it was new

120,000 CP3 (fuel pump) should be fine!!! a NEW FPR will make it WAY better and up your fuel mileage back to where it should be.... don't just keep putting the oil in there and think it will be fine, ( its just a band aid at this point) here is a link that should help you out http://www.dieselbombers.com/chevrolet-gmc-diesel-tech-articles/21723-dmax-replacing-fca-k-fpr.html don't forget to get new O rings for the thermostat housing...
wow that dont look like anything i want to do thats for sure and i got to open up the cooling system that sux
