What do you expect from United Pot Smugglers?

Dad has been using Speed-E-Delivery for some things... he says they are great but I believe they are more like a courier service.

I just learned a UPS trick this week. It's called a "brokerage fee". They charge this when you buy something from another country (in my case Canada) and UPS brings it in to the US. It's separate from the shipping and seems to be based on a value they ascess on your item. The first time I heard about a "Brokerage Fee" was when then UPS driver requested a check before he would release my item to me. I was pissed! I paid for the item and shipping in full up front. UPS couldn't explain what the fee was for or how they'd come up with the amount. No documentation was provided with the amount requested. (it was 16% of the cost I'd paid for the part) It was suggested to me when buying anything from Canada to use the postal service instead. Now I know! Pete

Yep. They also have a tendency not to include the time spent at the border in their shipping times.

UPS sucks big time.

That is the sellers fault, #1, he should have known better and informed you as such, and #2, he should have shipped another way if at all possible.

Yea, and UPS' out will be that you didn't pack it properly. I've had a gearcase arrive with the skeg sticking out of the box. You should see the box I built to ship gearcase housings. It's heavier than the housing! :nonod:

Nick, you are just upset because your especially ordered B-Day cake did not arrive on time....;):D

With UPS the only way to save a shipment from damage is to insure it well so a different crew of workers handle it. Not to mention it needs to be packaged bullet proof and for a LU needs thin plywood (not paneling) on all ends and no handle with care or fragile on the box because I was told that they will abuse it on purpose.
Spec, hope things work out for you, but like Forkin said they will say it was not packaged well even though I'm sure you did a great job...

Not sure if it works the same going Canada to US, but when going US to Canada. If the phone number of the person receiving the package is included on the shipping invoice, you will get a call when package is at customs to pay any tax or duty. Then you become the broker and cancel the brokerage fee. With no phone number UPS becomes the broker and you pay the fee.

the shipping is some sort of deal where UPS delivers to a post office [po box] and evidently they could care less cuz it's not a physical address. I've had many deliveries fro UPS, no problems!! After going to the local UPS branch, and thoroughly frustrating the supervisor, she informed me my package was in Syracuse and will be delivered Friday. I firmly believ it's going back to Hodgkins,Indiana, then Hodgkins,Illinois, the Buffalo,N.Y. then Syracuse, you know the drill!! All this for $30.00 worth of Marine Corps gear!!!

Nick I have had the same problem here because there is no UPS Store around here. Once in a while the package goes from one side of B.C. to the other till they figgure out the last bit must go by the Postal System. Normally adds 10 day to 2 weeks to the shipping. Doesn't happen all the time just once in while.

UPS isn't the problem, it's their connection with ''sure post'' that gives them problems. I called the source today and they were flabberghasted at the numerous cross country journey of my package. Today's update said it will be delivered 5/21/13. In the meantime they have refunded my $6.99 shipping fee! I suggested in the future ship it USPS priority or UPS, but not surepost! Info was added to my buyer profile!!

My contribution to UPS at it's best. They denied the claim due to very poor packaging by sender. I did have to agree though.....

I haven't used UPS in like three years now. I had them damage more things than I care to mention. And it seems like the more bullet proof you make the crate the harder they try to destroy it. My last powerhead crate (constructed of 2x6, 2x4 and plywood all screwed together) looked like two fork trucks used it for a hockey puck in some warehouse.

While I can't control what gets shipped to me. I do advise anyone shipping to me Please do not use UPS. While the damaged item that may arrive is technically between the shipper and UPS the reciepient gets sucked into the middle. In Chris's case (Specboatops) He filed a claim based on the pictures I sent him. He was assured that a inspector would contact me to set up a inspection. Instead a UPS driver shows up unannounced wanting to take the package. When I requested a written receipt releasing the package from my posession, I was refused. I called Chris and we agreed not to release the package. UPS couldn't even tell him where they were going to be taking the package. Then the DAM UPS driver shows up again???????????????? Can't count how many phone calls I received from UPS scheduling a inspection only for that to never happen.

Then some NIG NOG ski slope assed woman that I can hardly understand wants to E-mail me a Photo requirement form, instructing me on exactly what photos and how I was to take them and send back to them. I still haven't figured what her name was. Thats when my very short fuse got shorter. Hell they asked if i was refusing to release the package at one point, when I told them I was not releasing the package until a inspector physically inspected the damaged goods by direction of the owner. And then they cancilled the claim. Only for Chris to do what ever he had to do to get it reopened. The sad part is. Only two people get run through the ringer. The shipper and reciepient. In Chris's case UPS finally approved the claim.:D:cheers:

If it lands here Nick, I will keep it and Fed-ex it from here to you. UPS could destroy a lump of lead. I occassionlly ship things and you can bet the crate will hold up. The down side is that using a propper crate will cost a lot more cuz you have to use a real shipper, not brown. Good luck. BTW.....UPS only has brown pot.

A shipment can remain in this status until it is delivered. Other than time-definite air deliveries, shipments are generally delivered anytime between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (and sometimes later) to residences, and by close of business for commercial addresses. UPS cannot schedule a specific delivery time within that window. Up to three delivery attempts will be made, excluding weekends and holidays.

<TBODY>
For residential deliveries that require a signature, you can leave instructions for the driver if no one will be home. For example, you can ask that the shipment be delivered to a neighbor who will be home. If an adult signature is required and the sender has instructed us not to leave the shipment with a neighbor, we will make another delivery attempt on the next business day. Shipments that don't require a signature can be left in a safe place at the driver's discretion. This could include the front porch, side door, back porch, or garage area.

nah, it was just a life saving serum, but after waiting 15 days I died! and they call this ''service'' Surepost!! My seller is going
to send me a duplicate order no charge priority USPS if it doesn't arrive tomorrow[5/23/13]

thanks for posting my humor, maybe one of the rainy days at the ROMP someone will show me how to post pics, then all Hell will break loose!

LMAO!!! I had a Fed Ex guy... drop off a package in town (10 miles one way) because he needed a favor and was late.. and the business knew me they said yes. The second time I called FedEx and complained. They were VERY nice and addressed the problem (child) accordingly. No problems since. :)

That said, never had the same problem with UPS. It was on time, but what they ran over it with was the problem. ;)

Retraction to post #25. "In Chris's case UPS finally approved the claim.:D:cheers: " It was found out yesterday that UPS (Crawford & Company) has Chris's claim on hold. After assuring him it was approved and a check would be cut. They now want the lower taken to a mercury certified entity for a complete replacement estimate and a repair estimate http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o173/KatayokunoTenshi_01/Emoticon/Emoticons/Violence/bth_explode.gif It's clear that insuring a object is just another way for them to make money, Running the owrer through the ringer until thay simply give up trying.

everybody take a deep breath and cheer, original package arrived today, pretty much intact, no damage, and difficult to believe its many traverses from Indiana to Syracuse ! Duplicate scheduled to arrive Wed.5/29/13!! Now what will I do with 2??

Nick this thread had me crapping my pants, around the time your crap started I had sent my gearcase to the Aluminum Dr in Florida. Started its travel from the UPS Depot in Canmore AB. Canada on May 15th, arrived in Clearwater FL. on May 23rd at noon, undamaged. So I bought a Lottery ticket today, just hope I get it back in good shape before the snow starts.
When its fixed its going to Bud for the Stainless coating, then back up here to the western Canada. I have since found out they have a Fedex Depot close to me so no need to use UPS anymore. Once it leaves Aluminum Dr. IT will be Fedex that handles it . Hope the rest of my shipping goes better than your gong show.
I am so glad it got there in one piece, after you started this thread I was real scared of what I could be infor.
Glad to see you finally got your stuff

I've never had a problem with UPS, once shipped a lower unit in a bicycle shipping case and it returned better than new. I've read some of the other horror stories and am now paranoid over SUREPOST , but this too shall pass!
