Hello guys,i just moved to Portland OR and picked up a Sleekcraft Aristocrat that i just had to have...Problem is,the 1984 235 crossflow overheated and hurt a piston and sleeve and i am having a very hard time finding somebody that wants to dig in and get her going again, but i have had a whole bunch of people telling me that i should just dump it and sling a 4 stroke on the back  If any of you guys know of anybody in the area or a within a couple hour drive that can help out and do it right,please-please talk to me,i would like to get this thing out on the water before the summer slips away.....BIG thanks.

Ask for Alan, or send racer (above) a PM. Best there is for that 235. Don't know of anyone in Oregon.

The motor is now in pieces on a work bench in the proper hands.....It was cool to watch somebody with mad skills remove the powerhead in such a short time,i for sure learned alot hanging out and watching.

I can work on them with my eyes closed. :) Once you know, you know. ;) And I'll preach again... :o Find a factory service manual on fleabay if you want to fool with it yourself. :)

Do you have any more pictures? Looks like a nice boat, but it kind of looks like the skeg is beat up a bit... no jack plate/set back... and a huge barrel prop like you'd run on a bass or offshore boat...?

The boat is very clean and no damage to the hull at all, only thing that needs to be replaced is the windsheild due to a few cracks. The boat came with another prop for when the last owner planned on installing a jackplate,he also gave me a dry exhaust kit....needless to say,i will be jacking that engine up atleast 6 inches and setting back, just not sure on how far back yet.

I suggest you poke around in the tech forum for some tuning tips on these motors. It is important that you know what they do not like.

Dropping some new plugs in her in the morning and will air it out for the first time shortly there after...Plus i also wanted to learn the Willamette before hammering down.

Hammer Dropped for the first time : ).....She is exactly what i was wanting, something that makes the hair stand up a bit on the arms, but not overkill so i can take the wife and kid....Handles like a dream....But i do have some charging and voltage bugs to sort out...After the first couple runs i had to give the batt a charge and the voltage was dropping around 10 the last time out..but today it was bouncing between 13 and 16 once i got to downtown portland, then just went steady down around ten by the time i got it back to the docks.

One thing you figure out about boats and hot rods is that you seldom get bonus items for no reason. When the boat comes with a charging cable hooked up to the battery, its generally for a reason.

A new water cooled voltage regulator may be in your future.

Call me a spaz, but i just spent the last hour looking at the motor trying to find the regulator so i could see which one it is so i can order a new one and i could not find it,nor could goggle : )....and i had to change the starter as it went south the last time out......So tomorrow it will be in the 80's and i only have to work 1/2 day,so i am going out regardless....but i would like to change out the reg before hand.

wired247

Its under the flywheel at the rear of the motor, bolted to the top of the motor. It is water cooled and the cooling water circulates under it.

You won't get one by tomorrow. Charge the battery and go out and have fun.

OK,now i know where it is.....big thanks as always......On a side note-with the voltage bouncing from 13 to 16 will i cause any other issues...i mean it seamed ok the other day when it started, but i was miles from the dock and just did not care,i was getting it back.

First off, that boat sat for a long time. I would check the water in the battery and make sure its topped off. I wouldnt worry about the voltage jumping around too much. Lots of outboard motors dont even have voltage regulators and they are all over the place. I'd still change it soon though as it will be hard on the battery but you should be able to finish the season ( tomorrow ) out before the weather goes to ****.

Not sure what the deal was,but i gave the Optima a nice slow charge before i went out today and the voltage never left 13......Besides all that,i dig this frickin boat, ran 11gals through it and beat the boat good....she just loved it,runs like a damn swiss watch : ) ....One happy camper right here....Got some video, but can not make it work here for some reason...Hope we get a few more nice days like today, but still worth the effort for what i got.

The motor runs directly off the stator. Its the ancillary crap like lights, trim and other junk that run off the battery.

I know you don't have a speedometer on there and the prop isnt ideal but how is she doing on the top end?

Nice boat. Damn near doesnt fit in my garage though which is sort of killing my search for a 21 foot pickle fork.

I think my cell phone gps app was being REAL nice (and wrong),it gave me 4 readings between 76 and 78mph.....But i sure do dig how nice that hull handles when it is on step....Not bad for a heavy turd with a cheese motor : )

That regulator does not like agm style batteries, try a regular lead acid.

Not to shabby for a pretty much bone stock ('ceptin for the reeds ) low compression 235 crossflow.
