teleflex rack on a hydrostream vector need info thanks

Just wondering if I got enough room to mount a dual rack steering in my vector with it being right hand steering? It's alot cheaper than the rotary style I have on it now

just curious if you did go with the dual rack for your vector? im rigging mine up now and cant find much on whats best to use as far as steering other than hydraulic which i dont want. thanks

I put a dual cable rack in mine several years ago I bought off sleaze bay. Forgot the brand name but not teleflex. By the way its a vector. Originaly I put a single cable teleflex on it when it had an inline. If I remember right I sent the 14 ft. back because it was a very tight fit, a little short. I went to 15 ft. and it was a little long. Any way when I got a v6 i bought a 15ft. and its a little long but it wasnt hard to put in. Check with other vector owners and see what length they have, something to consider.

Thank you. It has single from previous owner when he used and inline and it is 13' so I figured 14 would be plenty. But that's something to consider. I'm going to talk to more people on it. I can't even find a kit with everything I'd need or anything it's confusing on everything you need. Thanks again

You won't find a kit for a dual rack system anymore. Nobody makes one. Your only option is to cobble something together from used/NOS parts. You will need to find the attaching hardware for the motor end, a pair of cables, and the dual rack helm. There are basically two families of systems. The Morse/Telefelex/Uflex, and the Mercury Ride Guide.

Although it is the preferred system, no parts are available through the standard channels for the Mercury system. The cables are really getting hard to find, especially since a lot of the pad v speed boats (Viper/Vector/V-King, some of the Checkmates and smaller Bajas, etc/) seem to use the same length cable (14'6"). I have been scrounging for years and have put together a complete NOS dual Ride Guide system less cables.

The Morse/Teleflex/Uflex system is not quite as beefy as the Ride Guide, but the cables are still readily available. In fact, the Uflex M86 cable fits all 3 systems. The only part you may have trouble finding is the dual helm (the racks are integral to the cables). This is the way I am thinking about going as I have been unable to locate the Ride Guide cables that I need.

There is a thread on here somewhere about converting the Uflex cables to work with the Ride Guide, requires some simple machine work on a lathe IIRC. Member "Outasite" posted it:

The final option is to give up the mechanical feel and a fat stack of green backs and go hydraulic...

Thank you. I finally did get a hold of a rode guide system..minus engine attachment parts just helms wheel and cables. So now I'm searching for attachment and seems hard because there's so many different way it seems and not sure which one I need

Post up your motor year/make/model. Pete (Transomstand) will probably be able to tell you the part number for the attaching kit you need. You can usually score what you need on ebay or through the classifieds here.

Numbers in block do not come up with anything but I believe it's a 87 or 88 merc 2.4 200..mod vp version

Depending what clamp bracket u have, the bracket that holds the second tube for the second cable might be longer then the standard one. I have the single trim ram offshore style clamp bracket and when I couldnt find that bracket I made one out of flat stock. I have a new one for the "standard" clamp bracket if u need one.

Also makes a difference if you are running the cables in "parallel" (both down same side of the boat) or "opposed" (one cable down each side of the boat).

No, you need a 16 for the port side with opposed i think.

Mercury 92876A8 should get you pointed in the right direction. The bracket that daytrader mentions may not be correct in that kit, but as he says, it is pretty simple to fab from flat stock. There are sevral on ebay right now in the $60-$90 range.

If you prefer to scrounge, you can pull that stuff off any make outboard and fab the same bracket mentioned to fit your clamp.

I have a dual rack rideguide with 16 ft. Cables, came out of my ae-21 working fine,i sold boxes of ride guide helms and motor attachments on here last year, they go like hotcakes
