I posted this question in Jan. I'm looking for more input. I'm putting twin evinrude v8's on a 27' wellcraft excaliper. It has 2- 12" setback brackets. They are 24" on center. Too close. STV_Keith said his are 26.5" apart. Scmarineperformance (http://www.screamandfly.com/member.php?73362-Scmarineperformance) said 27". I was going to move both brackets out 1.5" each. I first removed 1 trim tab and some of the gel coat came off. I stopped. The transom was replaced about 2.5 years ago. I was told someone who worked for Superboat did it. If I redrill the holes in the brackets for the engine out I can only move out 1" on each, giving me 26" on center. Will 26" work. Will the motors touch on turns. Any help is greatly appreciated THANKS Pete.

The glue/sealer used to seal trim tabs etc will often pull some gell coat when being removed. I guess the trim tabs will be put back in the same location so the repair will not be seen. If a gell repair is needed it can either be done with colour matched gell coat or with paint after filling. Personally I would not compromise the setup of the engines because of the possible damage on removal of the brackets. The extra holes in the brackets could also weaken the brackets, there is already a utube clip of a V8 breaking a bracket. Good luck.

Hi Joe. The bracket is a stainless marine 12" setback. Not a jackplate
