Anybody please help me. I just bouth 1989 Monterey 2000ss 20' hull. This boat was made for I/O engine. And i want install bracket for an outboard but i don't know how big. My question is: how many horse power engine must have to make my boat run 65 -75 MPH. Help needed desperatly. Thank you.

Well I dont really know your hull. But do you have any pictures you can post of the boat. Someone here should be able to help.
If you look at the picture of my boat. The Merc on the back is pushing 250 HP and I am running 75

I would have to say the only way you are going to hit the speeds you want. Is to put a couple of motors on the back.

Some hulls are built to max out in speed. Even if you put a zillion horsepower on the boat it will only go so fast. What does the bottom of the hull look like? What is the weight? Example sidewinder will run around 50s I run mine in the 60s and that is scary for the chime walk is uncontrolable. More horsepower aggrevates this problem. This is not to say you can not acheive the speeds you want but need to see the bottom and know weight. From this imformation someone here will know what is necessary. Rick

Ahh yes, the ole round bottom sidewinder.......back in the 70s it was one of the top dogs out there.......and your right.....around 60 it does the Curly Shuffle.......fun boat!
