I thought I saw a MI plate on the back of that beast.
But I have to ask. How did the small block chevy end up in the AMC

At a chevy dealer, then at Ramchargers racing engines. I had a 67 camaro. But I always liked the AMX body style, I knew a 360 or 390 wasnt going to get it, so I bulit a SB Checy for it. Had mounts welded to fit SB and vale' Chevy powered AMX.

So the motor was being built prior to obtaining car, in a nutshell.

I used to have a 1970 AMX. Not the Javelin AMX like the one shown but a true "Kenosha Cadillac" as we used to call them. These were the rarest American made sports cars as the build number was fewer than Corvette, Thunderbird, or any other. Only made for three years 1968, 1969 and 1970. Don't remember how many were made but it was damn few.

Mine had a 360 in it. Unfortunately it was a 70s car and as a result was an fugly lime green. Because I liked the handling (cornered like it was on rails) I got used to the color but it wasn't easy.

Nut that car brings back memories. I loved my AMX, it was the first car I ever owned. Bought it from a Minnesota state trooper in 1979.

What's the difference between a Javelin AMX and a "true" AMX?

Camaro / Z28 same deal

Cowl induct hood, spoliers/valance interior, hi=po motor

up till 70 AMX was the 2 seater fastback, in 71 became 4 seater, bigger car. I got it cuz it had bubled fender like a vette, which is what I wanted and still want.

Before 1971 there were two separate models the AMX and the Javelin. In 1971 the AMX was discontinued and a Javelin AMX was offered. Perhaps I used a poor choice of words. However the Javelin AMX and the AMX are not related other than in name.

As H2Onut indicates the original car was a two seater and the Javelin AMX was a four seater.

Here is a link to a site featuring the original AMX:

Both cool cars but I always liked the look of the two seater, it didn't look like any other muscle car (nor did it sell like any other muscle car). :D

If there's anything left of it (should be if it was in a garage) you need to get it down here. I'll even offer to help you. Get a trailer and I'll donate the tow pig. :D

The body was crap on it, doors falling off, window regulators sticking, door handles always falling off, seatbelts didn't work right, sometimes wouldn't latch, sometimes wouldn't unlatch, and a bunch of other probs, BUT.......that old 258 ran like a top, and it would burn the tires halfway around the block. Practically a bulletproof drivetrain.

Well, I have no garage in Florida. Hense sitting in the MOTOR CITY for 23+ years. I saw it last August when I went up for Rumble.

If Someone makes the offer....well away it goes. I only drove it bout 200 miles total since owning it. It sat for 2 years wating for motor, Had it 1 summer then off to the working worls and transfered arounf the country. Dad is getting older and dont know how long it can stay stored in HIS garage.
