I know little about the 3.0 motors. Sold my 300xs and took a 300 promax on trade. This is the only one I have seen that was not painted. Is the 300x painted? Thanks

The X motors come out of Mercury Hi-performance, they are not painted,as the production line motors are. The Mercury 300 promax, 98-2000 were painted, '01-'05 X was not.

I thought all x motors had the down draft intake or did they make a x motor with the 4 butterfly?

All Promax X motors are downdraft. Most of the PM motors I've seen were unpainted and when I got a new powerhead from Mercury they all came painted.

This is a shot of my 2001 300x. It is unpainted. It is also a replacement engine from Mercury Racing vintage 2001 Mercury has no rhyme no reason:D

The 300 x does have the downdraft intake and 250 hp had two throttle plate laser style box intake, the 300 pro max had the 4 throttle plate box style Intake, plus higher rev limiter in the ign box, higher exhaust port timing.

250 efi had four throttle plates, at least all the ones i have seen including mine. The 225 has two plates thats why most use the 250 efi intake on them. JMO

thats probably a replacement block from merc, all the promax's were black when original, and its not an x, the ign pickup would be in the wrong spot for a 2 computer engine, as well as the alternator mount points would be different.

Maybe I am confusing the 225PM and the 300PM.

My 1998 300 Pro MAx motors are stock and painted. Looking at your trade in, I would guess block replacement (heads are painted)

Gonna sell it Chris. I took it on trade on a 300xs I bought for a boat I purchased advertised as in "excellent" condition that in fact was a complete turd. Now I have no need for a 3.0 motor. The 300xs is on a good friends 22' Bullet. This motor pushed his boat into the very low 90's and has been very dependable and that is why I took it on trade. He wanted the xs for the fuel mileage.

Yes, I stand corrected the 225 is the one with two hole throttle plates and the 250 hp,300 pm have four throttle plate.

Hi Rock, I am in the market for a clean, well maintainted 300PM or a Supermag. Have you listed it or have a reasonable price in mind? I am in ATL, but trucks run everywhere, shipping can be arranged
