Just looking for a little assurance really!
I have a 1983 140 cross flow lower unit that I am going to use with my 1993 140 looper.
Will every thing bolt up or would I need to p/u a new shift rod.
I know that in 92 or 93 the cranks changed (the splines are longer) the c/f to looper d/s should be good to go (but 93 looper to c/f won't work)
I also have a crank from a older looper with the shorter splines if needed.
I would really welcome some input

If both have the red cannon plugs you're in luck.

I'm a little confused...I have no idea what the two answers given have to do with the question.:confused::confused:
For shift rod, you can unscrew the one rod, and replace it with the other without hassle. They are different. One has an angle bend, the other has an offset bend. Just follow the factory manual on setting up the shift rod height. This is important. You don't just screw the shift rod all the way in until it is tight.
Driveshafts, you can run the early crossflow driveshaft, but won't have as much spline contact.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply lokinnutz!
This is what I thought too---but would you use the older crank or the 93 crank.
Just curious as to which would have more spline contact with the x-flow d/s.
I am in the process of building this engine and can use either one.

If you are sure you are using this lower, I would use the old style crank, as long as it is in good condition.
