what might he start with and what might he want to do.... i have a friend that has a tunnel hull with a 200hp 2.4 fishing merc with a little port work crossdrilled intake and milled heads and he just thinks he is king of the river and he is always bashing omc's and i am a boat mechanic by trade and i have a soft spot in my hear for old omc's so im kinda wanting to find a tunnel hull and build an omc for it and show him just what an omc can do my goal would be having a pickle fork tunnel like a nordic or eliminator style boat running neer or just over 100mph no i have never driven an outboard that fast however i have been 120 in a v drive hydro and in the upper 80's in a jet so i am not totally unacustomed to the speed..... is this even do'able with an omc and with what motor would you start out with a looper 3.3? or? and help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Speed takes Money, how fast do you want to go ?

Yeah, it really depends on what you want to spend. If you want to get radical, Monty or one of the other OMC gurus can turn your 3.0 fishing motor into a fire breathing 400HP monster. There aren't many bolt-on parts for OMC performance so you will have to have port work to make significant HP gains.

Realy dont know what i want or really need i want to make a 19 daytona run around 100-110 realiably so i can show up my buddy what powerhead would a guy want to start with a 3.0 or a 3.3 im guessing you want to use a 90* motor i dont see many hopped up 60* motors around the drag races....

The 3.0 is way more readily available than the Etec 3.3 powerhead. That said, you could make more power with the extra displacement. Any of the OMC/BRP pros can make a fairly reliable 300HP motor from a 3.0 carb motor. You'll be able to use pump gas but only 93 and up octane.

Otcha well arent the older carb 200 loopers 3.3's or are they 3.0's?

The 200-225 carb loopers are 3.0. I think the late model 250V6 they made for a short time had bigger displacement though. Not too many carb 250 V6 motors out there.

gotcha so would 300hp on an 19 daytona or something similar outrun my buddies boat you think? he has a 18 nodic thor 2.4 fishing merc with boysen reeds cross drilled intake mild port work on the exhaust and a cle spinning a 14 3/4 28 labbed cleaver he says it runs 107 but the fastest i have personally seen was low 90's whit me and him in the boat when he had a 27 masco chopper on it and he is always dogging omc's and jet boats and such and obviously he can blow the doors off my jet boat but i wanna blow his doors off with an omc! lol

Yes,that can be done,I think your buddy is exaggerating on the speed, unless gps speed is shown here,100 would be realistic on that Daytona ,even with a nice 2.5 but with an omc too, they can make some serious HP!,more than a mod drag 2.5.But it takes time and more money I think with an omc.

You can get some decent, base info on the various looper models and perf ideas from my website. I agree w/everything above as well.

Not super familiar with either boat because you just don't see many of them in Florida but my Uncle had an STV mod-vp with a carb looper worked by Monty that would easily hit 120 on the radar gun. It was a straight up drag racing boat though. Not for pleasure.

I'm new at all this, but I've seen some of Instigator's work in various pics and would have to think that he could set you in the right direction if you wanted some specs info etc.. If I'm not mistaken, he may even have a hot powerhead laying around. Check him out!
