I own a 21 Trick and love it but after seeing a few threads about the Talons i kinda like them and they look a little more user friendly for every day boating. Any thoughts from the penut gallery? Does anyone have experiance with both?

I've owned a 22 Talon, 21 Talon and a 21 Liberator. I've been in a 21 Skater and a 25 Liberator.

The Center Pod will be more forgiving than the true tunnel and you won't have to "drive" it as much. As for rough water the Trick will take it better than the any of the center pod boats.

It all depends on what type of water you are on and when you want to call it a day. If I I had a choice in dealing with wind blown chop and slop from other boats, I'd do it in one of the full tunnel hulls.

A 22 Talon is a bigger STV Euro , great for lakes and rivers but anything over 2 ft I would rather be in the Skater

Lake Boat , Tallon All Day !!!
The 22' Tallon , will eat up any lake here in Florida .
And will be perfect on the Harris Chain .
If I recall correctly , didn't you just get you a place on Lake Harris ?

Your more than welcome to swap rides and get a feel for a 22 Talon .... Mine even has power steering :) It will spoil you rotten!
No ill effects period!

The descriptions above are spot on... I have had true tunnels from 18-30 ft... they will flat out eat chop better than a center pod
boat, that being said, the one advantage the Talon has over some of the other similar boats is that it's "pod" is V shaped, not flat..
So it is somewhat more forgiving than the others but not by much.

The build quality on the Tricks are phenomenal...No tank worries either like the old Skaters!

Hugetime,
I was in Lake Luzerne this weekend and almost twisted my neck off when you drove by towing your boat. I later saw it in your driveway. Your boat looks great! I had to jump on S&F to find out who owned this 21 Trick boat.

Thanks for the compliment. Are you in the area boating? what do you have?

A friend of mine owns the Lake Luzerne Motel, stayed there and visted for a couple of days. Then went to Lake George for a few days. Didn't do any boating:nonod: but had a good time.:)

22 Talon all the way. No porpoise or lean at any speed and the boat actually leans in on turns giving all on board a secure ride. An equally powered Skater or Trick will be about 5mph faster but no way as user friendly. I owned a 22 Talon and regret selling it. The cockpit is a bit cramped and I added Dana Marine aluminum swim steps to help the family reboard after swimming.

An equally powered Skater or Trick will be about 5mph faster I don't know about that, out of the 6-7 friends that have 21's w/ 300X or XS,s - I haven't had one pass me yet. They can chime in if they want to but probably won't LOL :D
That being said, my hull is 23 years old, Im sure a newer, lighter 21 would / should be faster.

The few 22 talons I've seen have been stuffed..Albeit different levels of it though. When it gets a bit rougher I'd much rather be in the trick. The back seats in the talon make you feel like flour sitting in the floor.Loading people from the water is also a issue with them.I will say they are very nice looking but I've seen one on the brink if a huge accident way to many times.

I doubt the liberator would be a better boat

Having also owned a 22 Talon and a 21 Trick, I'd have to agree with most everything in the previous posts. As for speed, I agree with Adam and say that they're nearly identical, with the Talon holding it's speed better with weight in the boat (typical in smaller true-tunnel vs center-pod boats). My biggest word of advice for each boat is DO NOT try and run hard in big water in a 22 Talon and DO NOT try to turn hard in any water in a 21 Trick/Skater. They're both great boats, but as with all performance boats, they have their strengths and weaknesses. Because of the high performance from such small boats, their weaknesses are magnified over those of larger boats (26' and up) - so you just gotta' be careful! If you want to buy a boat that does it all, get a 28 Skater!

Hey razor what do you think about the 27 eliminator? I have been looking at them, you seem to get alot of bang for your buck.

NICE PAIR

anytime you want to run adam let me know, i'm up to 107 now, i would've run w/ you at the ranch but had 4 people on board and still managed to hit 100 mph. i remember going out into the gulf on the suwannee run, the 21 skaters had no issues in the chop, the owner of the 22 talon got wet though, and bounced around. maybe we could run isn some flat water and a chop to see how both boats do against each other. every boat has its purpose, for the rough water boating we do the skater wins hands down, but for tite twisty rivers the talon is a good choice and a nice boat.

Best i have ever done was 101 and that was down stream with just me in the boat and almost no fuel. realistically with 2 people i am consistantly running around 93. I am running a 30p Bblades non labbed. I think my problem is set back, it's only about 4-5 inches on a bob's jack plate. I was thinking maybe around 12 inches might work better, am i wrong?

It's all in the motor that he built. Charlie is an awesome engine builder. With the motor he built on my trick wich is mild it runs 100 mph

I personally water tested EVERY fully rigged boat that left our factory. Every boat powered with a 300XS left the factory with a CMC jackplate with 5.5" setback and either a 30 or 32 Pro ET propeller. We'd put 12.5 gallons of fuel in each tank to check the accuracy of the fuel gauges with the tanks 50% full. All the 300XS powered boats ran 102-104mph right out of the box. After engine break in they would typically gain another 2-3 mph. The non-lab finished Pro ET was faster than the lab finish. Driving these boats to the limit isn't as much about set-up as it is about balls. It takes extreme engine heights to run these speeds and not everyone is comfortable doing that. A 32 at 6050RPM(most power) and 104mph is about 8% slip which is a terrible number. But after the engine "loosens up" you'll see that number drop to around 5% and the speed climb to 106-107 with a bone stock 300XS. If you're not easily breaking the 100mph mark, and you're jacking the motor up, you've got engine or propeller issues. We have a 300X powered boat running a stock powerhead and transom mounted water pick-up @ 114mph at sea level. There's video on youtube of it running 111 with two people in the boat.

http://www.extremecarsales.com/id81.html I will back up Jeff's statement that a stock 300XS (with a cowl vent) ran 106 on my Trick 21' with a 32 BBlades Blaster. I'm certain I could have got 110 out of this combo had my girlfriend not wanted a different boat before I got the most out of my rig. The 106 that I ran was with an "as-cast" 32 BBladesBlaster - with full interior and a dry weight of 2,200lbs.
