wrist pin cir clips. Some kind of funky Snap Ring Pliers? Need to buy, steal, or borrow one soon for my 93' 2.5 260 refresh winter project.
Is this a Merc. made tool, or can I get one from Snap-on, or Sears Craftsman?
Thanks, Dana

Mercury makes the tool and I HIGHLY suggest you buy one . It is SOOOO much easier with the tool. Also I use a brass punch to "set" the clips by wacking the wrist pin first from one side then the other . Never had one come out yet!

I know I don't need to tell ya, but if you get a part number, let me know. I'll check on that when I get to the shop.

P.S. I show a 91- 52952T 1 REMOVAL TOOL to be what you need. I can do that one for $40 + shipping. There is also a 91- 77109A 3 INSTALLER KIT that is $42 + shipping.

Hi,

If you grind a small bevel on the end of the 'removal tool', it is much easier to get under those clips. You can also use a small phillips screwdriver instead.

Is from the OMC manuals They show you how to gring a pair of needle nose plyers to remove the clips. Then go buy you some spiro-loxs and use them instead of those c-clips they will not come out period. The c-clips if you are not careful will crimp and then they will spin in the grove and loosen up after that you got a mess in your block. The Merc loading tool for those clips iis another good way to crimp those c-clips.Best bet is to just use the spirlox All the race car guys use them and I have not used a c-clip in years. Wiseco sells them for their pistons you just have to ask for them they get .50 a piston more if you want to use the spirolox.

i have never seen the spirolox in the wiseco catalog, are they used as a replacement for the c style clips? is this a wiseco replacement?
i have the mecr tool to install the c type clips but it will m not work with the clips on the pistons with the small grove cut into the pin boss that holds the little pigtail in circlip. guess thats to retard the clip from spinning.
anyway the merc tool i got to put stock pin keepers seems to bend the hipo clips

The Spirolox I use are part number wh-84 I get them from a bearing supply company. DPX here in Houston. That number is good for the Merc pistons I think they are the same for the crossflow OMCs I will have to look for the number for the looper OMCs.
