i need to know if a v4 looper case will work with a v4 crossflow . its the same splines on the prop shaft i know that . will i need to change the shift rod ? are the splines the same at the crank ? reason for this is i have a broken skeg on my crossflow case and i have a looper lower at my buddys house i want to put a low water pickup on .thank you ed .

the looper lower doesnt fit. the bolt pattern is different among other things.

if you looking for another lower for your Xflow, depending on what your gonna do with it you may want to try and find a 1973 135 case as these have a higher gear ratio. not by much but you can turn a lower pitch prop faster with one if you like.

There are several different looper cases one on the 60deg motor is not going to fit different drive shaft lenghts, then there is the 90 deg looper one has a v4 small case the other is a v6 style case with different gear ratio.now if you have the smaller case you just have to change the shift shaft it will bolt up to a 78 and newer motor,if you have an older 73to 77 motor you will need to find one of those vintage cases,I probably have one.hope that helps

thanks alot . it seems to be the small looper case so it will work . will my crossflow shift rod thread into the looper case . the looper case came off of a 91 140 . my crossflow is a 87 . the looper case is also a 13 spline my prop fits on it perfect .thanks ed .

It will work, I have done it many times. There are drive shaft lengths that are different for certain years and the shift shaft is different. If you approach with caution and don't force anything making sure drive shaft isn't too long you should be fine. You will have to use shift shaft out of the motor you intend on using it on. The v6 and the v4 will interchange also, but that is not what you are asking just a bit of trivial information.

The 92 up looper case wont work as the drive shaft is too long but anything older should be good. Just swap out the shift rod.
What year is the looper gear case ?

I believe it was the v6 93 looper, that first changed the drive shaft length not the v4
correct me if i'm wrong

I have 2 looper v4 cranks a 93 and a 86 and the 93 has far deeper splines than the 86.
