I have just purchased my first Optimax motor (2012 90 hp) I need advice on what type oil that is safe to use in this thing. I have always used 100% synthetic Pennsoil or Alsyn 100%. What I am understanding from the owners manual is that Mercury reccommends Optimax oil which is very pricey & not available in my area except from the dealer. Will 100% Pennzoil or Alsyn void the warranty or cause problems with the motor? Thanks!

I see a bunch every year run on anything but the opti oil to no ill effects. Pennzoil is fine, the other is expensive.

I run the opti oil in mine but the early ones specified regular TCW3 two stroke oil.

I remember reading somewhere that they switched over to the optimax oil because the regular oil would foul plugs when run an extended amount of time at low rpms.

So I guess 100 % synthetic will not void the warranty?

I'd just use the blend in it.
