I have a choice (so far) of three different props and need help deciding which would work best with my rig. The boat is a 1980 Glastron Carlson CVX 16 that's been modified (hopefully) to handle the 1998 Johnson 200 hp that will be powering it. I'm running a 6" manual jack plate and Sea Star Pro steering. I am more interested in hole shot but I still want some decent top speed. The props are a Renegade bass 13.5 x 25 pitch 4 blade, a Raker 14.5 x 26 pitch, and a Raker 14.5 x 22 pitch. Thanks for any help.

Im no prop expert by alongshot but I do know the Renegade will outperform the Raker on holeshot and still give some decent topend numbers. I know the REAL prop guys will be here soon and give you some more definative answers

Thanks Laser, that's what I thought about the Renegade too but wasn't sure. Rally-I prefer mercs myself but I couldn't pass up the deal I'm getting with this rebuilt Johnson. Besides, I was under the impression that the Johnson had more low end torque than the mercs, so better hole shot? The mercs rev higher?

So does the 13.5 diameter 4 blade Renegade sound right wth a 200 Johnson? I thought the V6's used 14 or 14.5 diameter, or are the 4 blades generally 13.5?

The Renegade Bass props were only 13.5" The offshore Renegades are 14.25" I believe. I used to run a 13.5X27 Renegade Bass on my Action to pull wakeboards. A smaller pitch would have probably been more ideal for pulling skiers but the 27 pulled em up easily. Great acceleration out of the hole but not nearly enough bow lift for my normal boating routine.

it's gonna depend on the weight of the boat.

200 hp omc engine produces some fairly good torque and ports it's exhaust thru the case

the 4 blade may blow out. where as a good raker will just PULL. making the holeshot better.

i've had lot's of customers with omc engines switch to rakers and have better holeshots.

The boat is fairly light weight and only 16 1/2ft long with a small pad. Do you think a 26 pitch Raker would be too much for it? Still have decent hole shot? (200 hp Johnson).

Raker! You will love it, Should see mid 70's with a 26.

Thanks Steve and Rkmirage, I have decided to go with the Raker. I was a little worried about the 26 being somewhat on the big side, but I talked to guy with the same boat with a 150 and a 26 and he said he got a good hole shot but the boat wasn't set up to handle anymore than about 60 mph. So I think with the 200 I'm running with solid mounts, sea star pro, 6" jack plate and everything I have done to the hull and transom, the 26p Raker might be the best all around prop for my setup.
