I can't find out what this motor is?
Can't make out the date maybe 95
There is a mark on the SN not 100% sure of the second digit
Looks like 91E2652
Could be 9TE2652 or 9fE2652
it is non painted 2.5 block, but it could be a fat block 2.4 or a sst 120.
It has a matching number 7 pedal front, and bleed lines in the cyl like a carb block, but has efi on it. Could be a 225pm, and somebody added the bleed lines.

Thanks for the help.

Just taking a shot here. But that number doesn't equate with anything. If it starts with 91 it should have a (A) designator in front and that would be a 2.4 L 1986. That years serial No. range was A913___ thru B104----. If it's a 96 which I doubt the SN range would have to be G303____ & up.

Roy not likly bleed lines were added! does it have the oil pump boss unmachinded if so most likly a 245. the 225,200,150 pmaxs had oil pump machined in as they were oiler models, i never seen a unpainted fat block all ive seen were fishin motas

The powerhead was bought later, as a back up race motor. Getting more pieces of the puzzle. It does have a number matching 7 pedal front.
16 amp system, but who knows what it came with. It looks exactly like the one above with no spacer. It has a black timing/throttle on it.. Hard to tell if it is a 245. It could be a sst 120 couldn't it, with efi added?????
It had oil injection, but has a the block off plate...
The guy says it is a 1995.

I will post pics

roy that is probally a 1991-1993 mod vp powerhead, there are kinda scarce, but very good motors up to 8800 rpm ,i had one back in the early 90/s that i bought from glen reynolds, they were not a production motor, tim

Is it a nic or steel??? Pull a head. 120's are 2.0 motors. Don't remember 'em to be machined for an oil pump. Think they just had tha boss on tha carb motor 2.0 like tha 245............

I know the 120 motors are 2.0, but when did the start using the 2.5 block, with 2.0 sleeves?

This isn't my motor. I'm considering buying it.
They made a mod vp 2.5 motor?
pics in a few..

It has a mod vp cowling, but I figured it pieced together. Standard mid, and stock 200 case.

Think '91 but not positive. Gettin' to old ta remember all this stuff. One thing I do know is tha seven petal Laser reed plate only came on tha ProMax. They also build several versions of tha Formula motors. But Merc has some "strange" things floatin around out there. Some weird stuff came off tha "trucks" only, never seen a dealer, back then also. ie: I came up with a "Laser" efi Bridgeport with an "adjustable pot" on tha ecu (no number, just said 2.4 on it) back in '87. Brand new drop on from Hi Perf. So............

Keep peckin' at it. You'll get it figured out...........

Is that ecu digital or analog???

i have a drag/S3000 motor, with no serial number or casting date.... it was bought off the mercury truck per the roundy round guy. no doubt there are some mystery motors. i still dont know the year of it. it wasnt an eyebrow motor, and the wire harness date was 2001. but when you buy new wire harness some of those are 2 years old according to there date..lol

I think you are correct. I would say this came as a carb motor, and then switched to efi.
So these were nic motors? Are they ported like a 245/260 or more like a 225 pm.
I thought I new about all these motors.... I guess not.....lol

Thanks for the help, anyone else agree, or disagree?

I tend ta agree. Thats an old analog with tha "adjustable pot" on tha back. Gotta use 'ole timey system ta do any adjustin' to 'em. Think clockwise fattens and other way leans. Don't remember how much it varys from either movement...............

Like ya say prolly was a carb. All tha Lasers were five petal except tha '90', '91 production 2.5 200 then tha PMax I think. Carbs could be either five or seven depending on tha application...................

So what is on the inside of this thing? Big rods, small bearing 260 crank????? Mahle pistons????
Or???????
Thanks,
Roy

tlwjkw

Probably small bearing but tha insides probably "pot luck". Depends on what was in tha bins and when they built it!!! Seen 260's, 280's with big, small and/or Chatfields. Seen early 260's with big, small, top and bottom guided rods. Mahle's and/or Merc. Figure "anything" outta Hi Perf will be tha same. So ya gonna have ta look!

I talked to a guy that use to race these engines back in the day. He said they are the same as a promax block. The were blue printed, and balanced from the factory, because to be a legal motor the port heights had a small tolerances. The had big bottom guided rods, and he didn't think they had a rev limiter. Adjustable pot analog ecu. He said with his short track props about 8800 was all they had. Came in carb or EFI. 30 cc heads.

So, must be steel sleeve? Mahles, cast? Just never seen a any kinda nic block with tha hole for an oil pump and forged. Am courious now?.............

kinda funny roy not positive, but i think these blocks are not legal in pro stock in dsra and a couple of different clubs, tim:eek:

That wouldn't be a legal motor in DSRA Prostock

The way it was explained to me was blueprinted and balanced. The porting was a little more precise..... So it could be a touch better than a stock promax. the guy has powerhead, mod vp cowl, bass mid, and fishing case for 3500. Not worth it to me, but learned something new..lol
