Great Rides.

I'm keeping it a secret. Its not for everyone but it works for me. I kept the cut out to make a race hatch but never did it. I will be in Dallas at the end of the month and was going to stop into the plant and take a look.

You're not alone. Good friend with an 03 Allison same color and set-up as mine that is a devoted fisherman. Has not drilled his deck for a trolling motor and has had two fish in the boat since new both of them being flying carp that jumped in while cruising.

19'6".. Thanks Shane. It handles the water well with a tourney load and 2 people. I'm still working on getting a few more mph out of it. With 1 person, half tank of gas, and a tourney load I can run 64 mph(gps) consistently. With 2 people, it stays about 61 or 62. But I'd like to get some tips from the guys on here to see if I can squeeze anything else out of the motor. Maybe some new reeds, shave the heads, and 225 carbs..

Here's my "Fishin' Bote".. Out in New Mexico in the SWDBA events, everyone had their boats named, ( red v-drive w/502 & 150 shot nos called Radical),When I went up to enter for the first race of the season, they said that a fishing boat.... yupp. Name stuck well, "Fishin' Bote". Even the announcer had fun when my little boat came up.

I'd come in on the weekend rigged for fishing and sking. Come Sat am qualifying, drop the troller off the nose and troller batteries, bolt on tight heads, little fuel, a tillman 22", dump all the weight and go play with the car motor boys. Even kept the fishing rods in the locker.:p

Had loads of fun. Even took a few fellow racers fishing a time or two , once they overcame the stigma of ridding in a outboard boat.

Well, she's not completely finished yet. While I've removed the oxidation, I still have the buffing and polishing to do, and get the deck extension in but enough has been completed for me to go out 2 times prior and she'll be going out again this Sunday. Here's 4 of my Shadow as she is now, and the last one #5, well, that's how she looked when I bought her over a year, alot of $$ and work ago. If ya look hard at #5 you can see the piece of plywood  over the rear of the floor covering a hole. The Rude XP200 had just gotten a new powerhead, which prev. owner only ran once which I verified before my purchase.

Welcome to the club! looks great! I had mine on a gorgeous new red dual axle trailer. I had to get a single axle for two reason. first is my tow vehicle is a jeep and the dual axle weight was very rough on it, though if it wasnt for the second reason i probably would have kept it. the second reason is because the trailer was a 2008 model and the ID sticker had been ripped off!! To the state that only means stolen trailer so it went bye bye. Is that a 150 or something a bit more monsterous?

I took a 1986 20Ft Lake & Bay, stripped it to bare fiberglass and started over. My wife refused to sit "Bitch" in the back seat so I made a mold and built a custom bucket seat for two in the front. One wider seat worked out much better than two individual seats because I can sit in the center when I am by myself.

The umbrella is awesome in the summer! Yes, it is designed so you can run with it up. It is made by Tuuci in Miami. http://www.tuuci.com/product/42/tuuci-shade-blade

Cool Rig dude!. Kind of unique in there's not another one out there quite like it. What are your numbers? (rpm at WOT, Top Speed, etc.).

12-11-2013, 03:57 PM
Speeds range between 70mph loaded down with fuel and people to 86.2 mph light on fuel with just one person. The best prop so far has been a worked 28p Lightening ET which turned the 86.2mph at 6200 rpms. On the 250XS the rev limiter horn starts going off at 6150 and the rev limiter kicks in at 6300. I think when I figure out the right prop it can break 90mph.

I take it it's a standard pad V?

I've been wanting to try a 28p. ET myself. My boat being a Tunnel V has alot of natural bow lift built in. My newest prop is a custom Ron Hill 4 Blade Over/Thru Cleaver I've only gotten to run once and even then not at WOT because I had fuel delivery issues that day. Any case -long story short my boat needs a little stern lift from the prop which is why big ear chopper types such as my Hyperdrive and Triton ( both by Hoss) and cleavers work best for me. I also have a Hydromotive "CR" Intimmidator Quad 4 I use for fishing. It's kind of a 'semi' cleaver design with good rake if you've never seen one. My Yammie Drag 4 is my "show off" prop for having sheer fun.:eek::D:thumbsup:

Hey man thank's for the pic's. Heck of a nice looking boat! I thought yours and mine might be the same colors but yours is a lighter brighter blue and mine's some sort of dark blue/grey & gun metal metalflake with a slight red stripe along top and bottom.

Anyway you've a great looking boat that looks well taken care of. You and I do have the same year (1986) Shadows.

But my Shadow will always be with me.

Hey, I installed that vent yesterday. Came out well. I think I got a faulty tube of 5200 though cuz it was awful runny. I hope the 5200 I have in my cauking gun tube I got for my jackplate replacement isn't this runny. If it is, I'll have a hard time with it. Here are a few pic's of it installed:289063289060289061289062289064I plan to put a chrome vent cover over the exposed outlet and add a matching one to the other side for a bilge compartment vent. Think this will unstick me from the water? NOTE: sloppiness was due to the runny 5200 I was talking about. It was tacking hard this afternoon so it should be fully cured by tomorrow.

I don't understand the purpose of the vent???It will allow me to plane off quicker by stopping excessive bowrise due to the back end being 'stuck' to the water from suction. Most all the newer Shadows I've seen vent this notch with the rear livewell overflow. However, since mine is an early boat my rear livewell overflow comes out of the side of the boat near the waterline just behind the drivers seat leaving this hull notch unvented. That combined with three type 27's, 25 gallons of gas, and 475 lbs of looper hanging on the back made it hard to break over when taking off.

See, everything would go normally, and with enough throttle she'd snap your neck back. However I would accellerate to almost breaking over and it was like I was a dog running and hitting the end of the leash. It was like something was holding me from breaking over causing the bow to rise excessively lugging the motor. The vent will stop this by allowing air directly into the notch between the transom and the pad elimminating the suction that occurs allowing her to breakover quickly. It's a racers trick. Personally I would have preferred to place the outlet in my rear livewell. But if your Shadow's gas tank is mounted like mine is, you'll know why I couldn't. I hope that explains it a little bit anyway. Not all hulls need a vent. Some do though and mine is one of them.

Makes perfect sense. Mine with the BP or the Formula launches immediately but cavitates somewhat as it lays down, with a 28 chopper or a 30 yammie. With a stock 150-200hp it does seem to bog a little. That may be the problem. Thanks for the info.

Also when I change out my old Bob's two piece 8 in jackplate for my 10 inch Quicksilver Para-Lift hydraulic jackplate I'll easily be adding another 25 lb's to the arse end. That though is not so much what worries me. My steering cables come out of the big hole on the starboard side along with the rest of the motor and console harness and even with 8" setback they are pulled back quite a bit. Going back another 2" may put an unforseen strain on them that may just be impossible to live with. In addition, the control electronics wiring harness for the new plate are also going to have to exit this hole which is already crowded. I'll be pushing the limit of how many electronics and control cables can be ran through this hole.

I also gotta figure out how I'm going to hook onto this looper with my cherry picker to lift it while I change out the jackplate, as I don't have the proper lifting attachment. My business partner is moving and either way I'm also going to need another set of hands to bolt this thing up.

There's a matching exit on the other side, I just drilled mine out and re-routed my control cables, fuel line and return line. That really dressed it up and gave it the semetrical look with 2 rigging tubes. I bought longer steering cables (11' 6") and use a 10" setback.

Right now my rear trim switch is in it. However I've considered relocating this and using it for cables if necessary. I think though I may get away with leaving the steering cables where they are. They have been there for a while and right now my steering is nearly effortless unless your haulin azz. The wiring cables for the hydraulic jackplate controls though will be another matter altogether. Here's a photo of the rear showing the cables to give you an idea.

Well guys I have my motor hook now and finally put my new cherry picker together today. I plan on changing out my jackplate as soon as weather permits. I figure two days as I plan on doing some preventative maintinance on my transom's motor mount holes while I have the opportunity. Also once the old jackplate is removed I'll have to remove all the 5200 (or whatever) sealer that is currently there. Also this Hydraulic jackplate is a bit heavier than the one I'm replacing or even my other new jackplate I have, a 10" Hydrodynamics RapidJack. So I'mgoing to have to devise a way to hold it up to the transom while I bolt it on. I have one idea involving cinder blocks and raising and lowering the front of the trailer till things line up. but we'll have to wait and see how it goes. I do not plan on unhooking any steering, motor harness, or control cables. Just support my motor while I swap out my jackplates.

Had the boat out last Sunday and motor is too high for holeshot, but perfect when up on plane. I think having this hydraulic plate will benefit my holeshot 100%

1998 Key Largo with about 300hp on the back. A little overpowered but it sure is fun keeping up with them big twin engined rigs. I dont fish so I just have it for cruising around the inter coastal, hanging on the islands, sandbars and going to restaurants. Looking for a leaning post for it if anyone has or knows of one in the stuart area.

Guys just came back from two week vacation with the boat down on the Big O. Unfortunately I spun the hub on my HPD so I threw on my Yammie Drag 4. New hydraulic jackplate worked flawlessly. It and the new vent mae all the difference in the worl. She breaks over fine now as long as I have the motor low enough. I can then raise it two or 3 inches once I'm up and performance is excellent though I forgot to adjust throttle cable after adjusting timing so I couldn't get WOT, lol! but I was still flyin at around 5 grand. I was there to fish though so the bugs can wait til I got home. I spent about an hour getting in some seat time with the new JP and just had to show off a little, lol! -I actually ran rings around my friends 17.5 ft Bass Tracker a few times while he was at WOT, lol, he, he, he. But after my showing off a little I just paced him at about 26 -2700 rpm and got great fuel economy. Only used 1/4 tank in two days of fishing. Oh the fishing! Let's put it this way, Monday my house goes up for sale or rent (haven't decided yet til I talk with realtor) and I'm moving south!

Almost forgot. Sprayed the cap with 2 coats urethane before my trip. I now have a shiny boat instead of a dull one. Here are some photos (NOTE: some are from down south).

I guess i will add my old boat to the mix. I bought this 1977 Cobra Phantom about a year and half ago. Fished last year with it in rough shape and completely disassembled it over the winter for new paint, new carpet, wiring and even fiberglassed a nice new update console/gauge area. Hydraulic steering, 6" hydraulic jackplate, 1999 Merc 2.5 200 (lots of mods and machine work). Boat weighs in at 1560 lbs tournament fully loaded with all my gear, 12 gals of fuel and a few drinks on ice. I did almost every inch of it by myself with the exception of the machine work done by James Perry and the paint was sprayed by a local friend.

Fun multi-purpose boat. Tops out mid 40's with the 4-stroke. Has factory line-x type interior (no carpet) and rated for 6 people. I added two pin pedestals in the cockpit so that I can relocate the fishing chairs if we're just going for a ride with another couple or taking the kids tubing, etc. Including the space between the console seats, I can seat 5 people in the cockpit. Kinda cool for a fishing boat.

Its takes awhile to learn how to "FLY" an Allison because of there pad design but it is worth it! Very quality built boat, my 98 looks NEW with no cracks in the gel or transom! SUPER fuel economy, running around my local lake I average at least 4.0 to 4.5 mpg at 60-70 mph cruise. And when up and running it eats up 12"-24'' water, and what a bargin I paid $14,000 for my complete package. In comparison my neighbor just got a Triton barge with a 250 Merc and is into it about $65,000!!! My Ally with 200 ProMax right now will still run right by his cookie cutter at 85 mph(get my 225 back on its like 90's). There are a lot of good boats out there, but I LOVE my boat and it will only be replaced by another ALLISON! :D

This video is with my phone(one handed) running 65-70 in about a 12" chop, if you notice it sorta "floats" on top of the water instead of some that seem to be "slapping" the waves. Anyway very happy with her.

I am very familiar with 'old'. I have a 1977 Cobra Phantom that I redone a couple years ago. It gets used often and hard so it is not as nice as it used to be but is still looking pretty good for a 1977 I think.

The most enjoyable bass boat I've owned, Bullet 20XDC with Modified 260!
Have run it to 90gps @ 7600rpm with 26P Promax and a fishing load but not interested in more even though it's there!
Love fishing from this boat!!!!

The current boat is an Alumacraft 18.5’ bass boat with a 115 Yamaha. Stable, pretty fast, fishes well and also pulls the kids well kneeboarding or tubing. Pictures are from Kerr Lake in NC, camping at one of the state parks with family. I was actually able to launch the boat at the campsite on the sand. Didn’t even need the boat ramp!

Picked up a Talon F20 Flats boat earlier this year. I've been slowly fixing up. It originally had a Yamaha, I put together a 250XS from a bunch of spare parts, fully rewired, new console, smartcraft vessel view through 12 inch Simrad, new custom trailer. So far has a best top speed of 85.5 mph
