i have a stv copy the center sponson is not perfectly flat and it has a pencil roll similar to an allison ,,,the ??????? is should i flatten the bottom or leave the pencil roll in place,,,,i have been told that the pencil roll will help the nose stay down to HELP prevent a blow over...i need to know what to do so i can get started...

The pad on the Euro I had was a true 90 no pencil roll. To rely on one pencil roll and say it would hold from blowing over is a bit much. One gust of wind will cancel out a pencil roll.lol
Another person to ask would be Brett Vanderwald. I think his tag is etec1 here?

You don`t say what year or model STV you have but usually any STV don`t have a problem with transom lift which is what a pencile roll is for. The early STV pointed nose (same as Laser LTV) would bennifit from adding to the depth of the pad but for the intire length and not just the last few inches.
Having driven several River Rocket`s i can`t say as to when i ever drove a better driving boat and they all were just as they came out of the mold, No lip. Allison`s on the other hand do bennifit from the lip and in fact some are made with it.
I guess it`s your choice.

its not a stv its a aerodyne which from what i have heard so far is the same as a mirage but irreguardless the bottom of the center sponson has three 1/16 inch waves in it ,,,starting from the rear of the boat going forward ,,i have a 7 foot level from the back i have a 1 foot long 1/16 inch gap then the bottom touches the level for about 4 inches then another 1 foot gap 1/16inch and then about 5 inches touching the level and then another 1 foot 1/16 inch gap and then its flat ... i was going to flatten it out to try and reduce the porpoising but i have been told to go flat,,and then someone else said leave the roll ,,,,and someone else said leave it alone and go ride ,,,so i dont know what to do but whatever i need to do i want to get started and not miss the whole summer like i did this year

That's not a pencil roll. Those are rockers in the bottom. It must have a nasty porpoise. Flatten all that out at least 5-6 feet going forward from the transom.
A pencil roll is a very small lip at the very back edge of the pad.
if its a stv leave the ball there....if u sand it out it will drive like crap...and possibly blow over....fact

So I flatten out the first 2 and leave the one on the back alone

If it is the same as a Mirage get rid of all of it. Dead flat all the way, with sharp edges.
