Scream And Fly
11-20-2012, 07:58 PM
Hi all,

As you may know, the subject of a bass boat/fishing forum has been suggested many times over the years and I've given it thought as well. So, here it is - we're going to give it a try. A lot of our members here own high performance bass boats and some even drag race them, so I hope this forum proves to be informative as well as entertaining.

Thanks for all of your support!
Greg

Great idea, as my S&F name says, I own a Shadow Bass boat (I call it an Allison on training wheels). I am always building and running different motors, from mild to wild. I've run a 2.0l 150 all the way up to a 2.5xs and it ran best with a Bridgeport efi. I am anxious to see a lot more bassboat discussion tips and set up combinations.

I fish tournaments out of mine so safety and reliability are a must.

Thanks S&F

Fastest it ever ran on GPS, light fuel, no tackle, no trolling motor, and one battery was 91.4. I had a 30p yamaha prop on it. Motor was a 2.5xs and was bumping the limit and my balls. I'm not a racer and that was Funnnn!!!!!! And probably my last time at that speed but I can understand why guys race though.

did you have lwp on there,,, my brother has a foot wid lwp but no guts,,,,his tach doesnt work so we got to fix that,,, running a 24p chopper right now but the rpms are unknown and the motor only has 40 gallons of gas through it so far ...2.5l ? hp it goes pretty good to be a heavy bass boat

That Shadow was a 1986 that I rebuilt and was fairly light, 8-900lbs. Motor was 2.5xs from Merc Racing (consumer motor) not sure on the HP but it was very strong, 1 1/2" above pad with 1.87-1 Torquemaster with Bob's nosecone. It was turning 7150rpm and was on the limiter it didn't have any throttle left. I had a Bridgeport on it at 87mph and throttle left but I didn't have the balls to stay in it. If you have the tunnel-v Shadow it will run and drive like a dream. I think the '90 models were heavier and not capable of those speeds. Shadows don't like weight in the front so keep your stuff stored toward the back of the boat and it will run better (they don't handle any extra weight well). I have a 1984 now and just built a BP for it, I will post pics of both boats soon.

Hi guys,
I think this is a great idea. I fish a lot of tournaments in my XB2003 here is Missouri and would love to here from more go fast bass fisherman. I have learned a lot from this site that I have applied to my Allison, doesn't help me catch more fish but I usually get there first.

I just ran the blue Shadow with the BP this weekend, ran aneasy 84mph at 6900 rpm. I haven't fished with it yet but our tourney season starts up in Jan. Anxious to try it out.

You're right about getting there first. When the bass are on running water or spawning you have to be the first boat there or miss out. I've won alot of money by getting there first.

Racers aren't the only ones that count on getting there first, but all the knowledge they impart on here sure does help all of us bassers (and racers alike.) I've never experienced the helpful ways like are demonstrated on S&F.

I'm impressed at the way the racer guys on here will help you with your technical problems. In case no one has expressed it yet I will say it, THANKS GUYS for everything!!!!

I guess y'all knew sometime or other I'd run across this thread and chime in. 86Shadow it's good to know there's another 86 20' 8" Tunnel Vee Shadow out there like mine. Well mine's not quite finished yet -finished enough to take out fishin though -, as I still have the buffing, new seats, the rest of my new gauges, livewell quick drain valves, possibly venting my hull notch to improve holeshot, my new Hydraulic Quicksilver(or maybe my RapidJack) Paralift jackplate -still undecided on which one will replace the old Bob's two piece jackplate, and my deck extension yet to do but here's a photo or two after her first trip out with new carpet and most repairs completed..

After this trip out I developed a fuel delivery problem:eek: I've narrowed down to the fuel pump. Since VRO is unhooked (by prev. owner) I most likely will retrofit with older dual pump system which hopefully after the 1st will be completed, and I'll be back on the water!:D

P.S: "Allison on training wheels." Great way to put it 86Shadow!

I don't know how many are here on scream and fly but I do know of ALOT of bassers that can and do run triple digits. No they aren't your everyday basser either. Strokers, ally's,bullets and some lesser known boats such as the prosecutor. With the help that most scream and flyers give here more participation from the go fast bass crowd and this forum will rock.
Sometime in 2014 I should finish my Laser Basser and from the help I have gotten here projected topend numbers will be 90+ LOADED to fish

It'd be very cool to watch. I love Allisons and am looking for an XB21 for my next project.

As for me I had my best top end speeds while my carpet was out with a bare floor and part of that even removed (had the urge ta go fishin ya know?) which were around 80 to 81 consistently (had a couple just a little higher in a 1' chop) with my Hoss HPD. Now with the new carpeting in with just me and a light tackle load & 1/2 tank I'm getting around mid 70's @ 6000 with same prop.:( I am currently having a fuel delivery problem which unknown to me was beginning at the time that could have contributed to the loss I don't know until it's corrected which should be soon as I have most of what I need for retrofitting new fuel pump, or, maybe pumps (I've a unique idea that may work using a different kind of single pump to replace the old VRO pump which, if it works I'll post it in the appropriate section with pics as it will help many others running Rudes with their VRO's unhooked.) as the case may be yet determined.

I still have my deck extension to go in yet but it's light as I've built it out of plastic & 3/32nd aluminum sheeting with the carpeting over that. I have made a door to go on the rear opening (facing you if sitting in drivers/passenger seats) for storage out of the same 3/32nd aluminum but since nobody stands on that -it's just to close off the open end that would be there without it, I deemed it enough with the carpeting over it as well. I made it so it can be removed if necessary mostly for when I have my girlfriend and her 4 year old aboard so she has more room to move around without being up on the casting decks. But after I've seen what a little weight like carpeting and glue can do I'm glad I made it removeable, lol!!:p:p Hope it doesn't slow me down too much more -might have to get a bigger motor! ha ha!!:D:D

"Center Seating" layout Allison uses. I love those colors you have too.

How much setback are you using? I'm getting ready to replace my old Bob's two piece 8" manual with a Quicksilver Paralift Hydraulic 10". I'm looking into gearcase options as well. I'll definately be Bob's nose coning my current lower but I have a line on a Magnum gearcase I can get very reasonable. I just have to find an upper shaft to fit my motor for that one. Once I can get more motor out of the water I hope to re-claim my lost mph's!:)
