I feel I've got a problem with a switch box or stator on my 2.5 200 merc. I have run the checks and everything seems OK. This motor starts and runs fine but the fist 5 to10 min. on plane seems to be on 5 cyls. and bamm It'll finally come to life. my dva always seems funny when testing so Im not sure about it, anyone else got a good idea. I just hate to play trial and eror with non returnable electronics. It has the 40 amp stator on it and I cant recall ever seeing one go bad. Just felt like this was the place to come for solid answers. Thanks in advance, Brian

What do you mean something is funny with the DVA. Have you tried putting timing light on each cylinder and running it up to the problem RPM visually checking the timing light for a miss?

I've had this meter tell me something is good and it turn out to be bad, and vise versa. as far as the timing light goes It aso shows fire on all cyls. at least at the dock. It does'nt show a problem untill I hammer down and plane off, at this point It will turn to about 5 grand and run smoothly for awhile and then come alive, This is why I cant ask a buddy to lay back their and swap plug wires at this speed. Also If I shut it down before it comes alive It wont hardly even plane off, and ounce it desides to run It wont act up any more that day. If It would go ahead and break completely down it would be easy to fix. Thanks for the reply us1

Try running it on the trailer on the ramp with a big prop on it so you can watch the spark under load.

Don't forget to check the grounds for everything. I have seen where just a little bit of corrosion under one of the ground leads can be a real pain in the A$$. Heat can also be a culprit. The use of hot air gun can do wonders.

did'nt get a chance to run mine yesterday. But I did run my buddys 2.4. He wanted to try my prop, its a 27 laser that runs mine out to about 6100. His would only turn about 5100, and felt like a v-4 johhnyrude. I guess his problem is more important than mine. His hull is the same. I know the 2.5 is stronger but is a thousand rpms difference acceptible with like hulls and weight. If so I know a fellow lookin for a 2.5!
