So whats the top speed on a champ boat?
I'm thinking they should have brought a STV!

Champ - Kilo Record is - 143.716 and Mod-U is 142.968 as per APBA web-site. For some reason I think the Mod-U number may have been raised recently but it is not on the APBA site yet. Guido Cappellini went over 160 both directions in a DAC in Kilo run a few years back. Running that hard for a Kilometer is a bunch different than blasting up to a speed and getting out of it! Not to mention a official kilo record is pretty indisputable.

Actually Guido's official UIM kilo record was 159.234mph. But it's interesting to compare Guido's budget & speed
to some STV's that could probably do kilos at 140mph for a fraction of the cost.

I knew Guido made one pass over 160 and I wasn't sure on the other so thanks for clarifying. Not really comparing but there is a huge difference between 140 and 160. I know several people to break 140 but 160 is a whole different world with a single outboard!

That is moving. I have been 123 in a Allison drag, and it takes some nerve, and skill. The kilo is a long way. Some guys run in the 130-140 on here... No thanks. Dixon ran 153 in his stv back in the day... I couldn't imagine another 30 mph..... I had a Pugh hydro for a while, and sold it... It went in the 150's in the 1/4 before I bought it.... I commend the guys who run that fast...

You know I am a drag racer so I am used to hearing a motor screaming. To me it does not sound like they are turning as many rpms. May just be deceiving to listen to. I suppose if they can get the speed out of it they need and not turn the motor 10.6 that would help things stay together a lot longer.
