Anyone ever notice Contender is missing under NADA? How do you go about getting it's value?

I saw one hit our internal employee classifieds, and I wanted to look it up just out of curiosity...

Forget nada... Search yachtworld, sold boats .com
you can develop a price from there, we find nada has been all over the map this year

According to NADA, they are a custom builder. For financing purposes, the bank will accept an appraisal from a local dealer, usually.

I bought one in '04 and this was a non issue.

Ahhh.. I see. I'm left wondering what is custom about a Contender. Around here everybody and their dog has one. lol

Well, if you go from one area to the next, you will see that the dealers have a large influence on how they are configured.

It's mostly little stuff like pop up cleats vs boat lift ready cleats vs pop hoist ready cleats, etc.

It can be a bit more though. For example, the 23 open can be furnished with 4 different consoles, significantly different.

If you tell Contender you want a 200 gallon livewell in the floor with 3 pumps in a sea chest, painted blue, you'll get it.

Consoles can have hinged electronics doors that open vertically, slide, no door, black, clear, sunshields over the electronics, etc.

Front doors on the console can be split, hinged on different sides, motorized, have seats, etc.

Oh okay. I wasn't knocking Contenders either, but it seems like they get around, and for the most part look the same. Thanks for clarifying though.

This one in particular was a 2004 21' Merc 150 ($22k). I found two comparables for 29k, and 33k. One had a 250hp, other a 300hp. Makes me wonder if this boat is underpowered a bit. I'm looking for my brother inlaw, and he specifically said he wanted something 200hp+ on a 20 footer, so I guess that rules this one out.

There have been a few that were tournament prizes that were set up that way. It's probably a prize boat.

I've spent probably 1000 hours in a 21 with a 200 OX66 and I would call it underpowered. A 150 would suck unless there is no t top and it's used to ride around with light load.

Also, a 21 will put water on the deck with a heavy motor on it, thus the use of the 200hp OX66 back in the day. Full of fuel, livewell full, 3 adults, wet.

contender (factory) builds and installs some really crappy t tops.

I would say it would be possible to have 2 brand new 21's with the same power with a cost difference of $10K with no electronics depending on the options that are installed.

There are 2 different consoles with god knows how many small differences that they would use in a 21 depending on the person that spec'd the boat.

That's probably right about the tournament boat. If I don't ask him now it will drive me crazy.
