No, I haven't driven one yet (no snow), but I am on the list here to test one out when we get some snow. I also have a SRX 700.
I had my deposit in hand, but decided to wait a bit to see what the winter would be like. It's looking like next year will be the RX-1 for me (maybe RX-750)
They do haul ass though. I have a test where they compare it with a ZR-900 and it holds its own, it doesn't win, but it's kinda like comparing apples to oranges. They pull real hard through the entire RPM band, and in a short distance (770ft) will spank a lot of sleds. Take a look at the stock class grass drag results from hay days. (maximum sled worldwide)
I think the 750 next year will have the weight issue taken care of better while keeping up the performance.

I think my dads going to get one in febuary. Is the Rx-1 a hole lot faster than a SRX?

I think people are finding the RX-1 isn't as fast as the early tests. It's a very trick sled, but it's too heavy. Yamaha's listed dry weight is 558lbs, but on SnoGoer's scale it weighed 612lbs that is VERY heavy for a sled with 140hp.

Cat's F7 weighed in on SnoGoer's scale at 473lbs and D&D Dynoed it at 138hp. The F7 weights almost the same as the RX-1 with the rider on it!

Power to weight, same as with boats.

I'm hearing stories of F7's beating ZR900's. I think after next year the ZR will be history and you will see F8's and F9's!

I'm not against heavy sleds, I drive a '99 ZRT1108 Hooper!

F7's are easily outrunning Rx-1's up here and beating a lot of stock ZR900's even on top end. They are freakish fast for a 700.

3- RX-1, and they are all slowish, one ran a best of 120.1 on radar on 2 miles of ice with no wing and 30 degree weather.
Stock F7 ran 115, with a timing key V Force reeds, clutching and air box mods it ran 118.
ZR 900 (earily release 2002) ran 116
Rev 600, 101
Rev 800, 109
Pro x 800 111
D&D 1010, in ZR 800 chasis, 122

In the quarter mile the F7 will take 3-4 lengths on the Yamha.
The RX-1 is a slug off the line, and pulls hard in the mid upper end, and god forbid that you get it stuck, cus you will need a tow truck to get it out.....and no suspension.
The Rev is unreal on the trails (it makes me hate my polaris), the F7 is tuff to turn, but awsome in the open areas, the polaris is somewhere inbetween the rev and f7 in all the categories and Yamaha like usual has missed the boat, it is not all that fast, not light, no suspension, expensive, and cold, but it sure as hell sounds cool........the SRX was better, and the SX was better than the SRX.

Just my opinion.
Oh and all the sleds were same day, same rider, only the 1010, and the 900 had more than 100 mile so the rest are still tight motors.

I'm an Arctic cat guy, but I fell and hit my head and bought an RX-1. I haven't got much seat time yet cause we haven't got s#*t for snow, but I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I don't think there slow by any means, nor are they the fastest thing out there either. They do not feel nearly as heavy as they actually are. I've got a sno pro and a zrt, so I thought the RX-1 was going to feel like a buick, but it's not bad at all. An 1.25 track w/1.38 studs and a little clutch work and these things rip. Just my opinion.

Fire walker how come ya think a SX is better than a SRX?Whats your reasoning.I think the RX-1's sound awsome lisned to one pur at the dealership. Is a RX-1 way faster than a SRX?How cloase are the speeds the speedos put out on the stock sleds?

We had both an SRX and an SX too. The SX felt a lot more nimble on the trail, but wasn't very close to the SRX for top end speed.
I have long travel on my SRX now and it handles better than the SX did.
The speed difference between the RX-1 and the SRX will have to be seen when the RX-1s get broken in, and the HP goes up.
I don't know around here, because we have NO SNOW !!!!!

my girlfriend bought one, I haven't ridden it yet, have NO SNOW.... I still ride a 95' Vmax-4, and love it... witht he M-10, she rides great! I doubt the rx-1 will be the rocket they claim. surely unique, amazing looking machine, shall handle with the best of them, but look what they claimed with the SRX when it came out........ They claimed it would SPANK the old Vmax-4's. My girlfriends father bought a pair of them, a 99 and a 2000 (SRX), and when we did lake runs, I consistantly took him from bottem to top. We were equally studded, did the studs the same day! Radar runs showed the same results, I was hitting 105-107 consistantly (not sure on distance,700? 100ft?) the SRX was getting 99-100...... So, surely it will be quick, and I will love riding it, since it is the same engine(vitrually) as my motercycle. Can't wait til AKROPOVICH MAKES A PIPE FOR IT! THAT WILL SOUND SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will let ya know when I get to play in the saddle of the beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later all,

I had a 92 V-MAX 4, and my SRX would blow it away, but thats the older V-MAX.
I got 112 MPH out of my SRX on a long speed run. It doesn't do that speed anymore because of the 1 1/4" track and it's geared down now too.
We set up one of those "speed check" portable radars, went down the lake and did passes at whatever distance we thought our sleds would be topped out at.
I've heard 126 MPH for the RX-1 on radar at an event my buddy was at...............BS or not? I don't know for sure. He's a Polaris rider, so I tend to believe him.

Burke the 112 you said your SRX did was that with the Radar or the spedometer on the sled.My 2001 SRX ran 120mph on sheer ice but i didnt use radar i used the speedometer,it will run past the 120mph mark though. Is that an accurate speed?

Buy the most expensive sled on the market and then buy a Turbo to make it go! Too funny. It should be fast. Don't forget about an aftermarket rear skid to help the handling and picks so it hooks up.

The guy at our lake with one won't even come out to play with the ZR900's and F7's anymore. Guess his Turbo is on order too.

Here's a dumb question from somebody down south that ain't seen snow in 5 years and don't want to............. Y'all are talkin' about turbos, are the hot sleds 4 strokes now? I thought they were all runnin' two strokes with chambers an all??????

airide18
01-06-2003, 07:36 AM
Well the new yamaha RX-1 is the only high performance 4 stroke sled out right now and it is one of the best looking sleds ive ever seen.

Firestarter

I really like the SX because it is lighter and very very nimbal, also with triple pipes a little compression, etc, it is as fast as an SRX.
The RX-1 that ran 120, is getting a turbo.......then look out. I have heard speeds of up to 129 for the RX-1, but have never witnessed it.
I will take pictures next time we all go out, and post them.

If four stroke outboards were designed like the RX-1 sled, performance outboards might have a more interesting future. But I suppose the same applies to the sled two-stroke engines. All we seem to be getting for outboards is fishin' and utility motors.

Speeds??? As for the older V-Max speeds, thats the old 750 flavor, they are much slower than the 800's.... Mine isn't the fastest, yet, but I just go with what I have seen, as for the SRX's, like I said, we ran side by side, across the lake, and thats what we got! Speedo accuracy??? Hahaha, yea, they are WAYYYY OFF! I peg mine way past the 120 mark on the lakes, and I know it'd be lucky if it's hittin' anything over 120.......... I have yet to get her on radar on the topend.... Maybe I'll have to grab the GPS and do it. I can't wait to get on that RX-1, they are sweet!
As for the turbo's, yes, they will be popular on the RX-1, since it is virtually the same as the R-1 street Bike engine, and I HAVE ridding that with a Turbo, and another with NOS....... SOO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they shall be spankin' all them other lessor' brands! hahahahaha
