Bought this thing (15' Javelin) as a fixer upper to use a while and then hopefully make a couple bucks. Bought the boat rigged for an OMC but less power. Boat is in great condition other than the rotted motor board which the owner didn't know until I showed him. Paid accordingly.
Bought a second boat to get the 70 hp 3 banger Rude off the back and should be able to sell it for enough to have the motor for free.
Motor is an '85 and was dirt ugly when I got it.

Here's some pix's.

Here's what the previous owner thought he had:

Here's what he actually had:

Based on the build style I elected to go through from the outside otherwise the deck would have had to come off and A. the boat ain't worth it and B. it's only rated for a 70 hp and it will still be 50% stronger than OEM.

Here's two days later and the "after":

Here's the motor before:

The boat was built back when OMC owned this boat company. It's actually a pretty nice little boat. Came from the factory w/tons of nice options pre-installed. Has a trim switch for the motor up at the bow where the trolling motor controls are.
I wanted to put a V-4 looper on it but for re-sale I don't want sued.
Should be a hoot for the islands and skinny waters around here.

Thanks guys. Should be fun.
Dave, almost went out last weekend. As always, any time you're in the area....

Donny, love that boat! Being that we have the same motors, we will have to race them ;)

Action, funniest thing was all the V-4's I stumbled over while looking for a 3 banger. Almost peeled the capacity sticker off and went shopping. Figured this way it will be great on gas. While I own it.
When I raced kneel down, these things were the baddest of the bad and I always wanted to race one. 110 - 115 HP's, shorty mid, race case, 100 lb motor on a 110lb 3 point hydro........., yowser. Some of the best races I ever saw were these things at full song.

that motor sure looks different all cleaned up !!!!!
Thanks Chris. I was really hoping for a drastic improvement on the motor and I definitely got it. Powerhead was white as well and I painted it semi black like all the new motors are too.
Shopping for props on e-bay now ;) Should be fun.

Good job there Gary. I got me a Winter project also, but most of the glass work is all done. It just needs a good paint job & a few braces here & there.

Trim relays and harness were in the boat previously and me being me, that is of course unacceptable.
Newer motors have it all in a small box above/behind the air box's on the p.head. Couldn't find the OEM pats to do that cheaply so I went to Walmart and came up w/this ;)
Plano tackle box and two relays from Auto Zone.

Nice!

Who could have told that you needed another boat and another OMC? ;)

I like the old style plain white Johnson cowl better than the "Merc wannabe" dark grey one, though.

Nice job Gary. I'm doing a similar one for a guy right now, repowering from an old 55 twin to a newer 70. Looks a lot like what you just did.
