Johnson V8 exhaust dump valve by Land and Sea

Has anyone ever used the exhaust dump valve kit part #117-001 from Land and Sea for OMC V8's. Do they actually work like advertised.

I had a friend a few years ago who ran a big johnson v8 on a 20' checkmate. He ran one of those dumps and he liked it. I think you hook it up to the speedo and at 55mph it opens. I read a dyi article a few years back where someone had one of those kits but instead of hooking it up to the speedo they hooked it up to a small 12v compressor (like kind that plug into a cigarette lighter). This inabled them to open the exaust when ever they wanted with the flick of a switch.

I used the Merc. version with a Yamaha V6. It works as advertised, but it may be non-trivial to find a place to exit the hose - I drilled a hole in the side of the mid-section.
