I know mine aren't good. I went on a ride last November and it was around a 34 mile trip total and it took me about 26 gals of gas to make it. I'm running a 225 promax with a 2.4 litre drag ecu. I'm in search of a stock promax ecu but I do love how the motor sounds now!
Last Sunday I made four half-mile solo WOT passes, four cruising laps around a 640-acre lake, and idled around with the family for about an hour and a half. I burned 6 gallons. :D

yeah i'm hoping to be able to do that soon. its only a mile from ramp to sandbar i go to on weekends so i don't spend much when i go on weekends.

At a 50-60mph I was getting 7mpg with the V4/tunnel. i just went up from 180 main jets to 193's so I dont know what to expect this weekend.
The Fountain.....2mpg average when fishing and we typically run 80-90 miles when we go out :nonod: Its getting harder and harder to justify. We usually put 4 guys on the boat and split costs.

Last time I checked I ran 63 miles and burned 15.8 gallons in each engine. I ran between 3000 and 4000 , with a 1/2 "burst" up to 4700( Tracy was with me). I find it hard to believe that it came out to 4.1 mpg. Chuck

Last Saturday we ran 160 miles. Burned 80 gallons. 40 per motor.
28 cat twin 2.5 280s fresh rebuilds. Props 15x28 3 blade clevers
we cruised at 50 to 100 mph. Got 2 miles gallon.
I thought that was pretty good for 280s spinning 5 to 8k.

I TRY not to burn over 5 or 6 gallons out each trip.....at $4.55 a gallon, and going 3 to 4 times a week, it adds up....(and thats not counting ice and beverage)
I got between 4 and (at best) 5 MPG's with a stock 2.4 200..The Tommy motor (2.4) gets between 3
and 3-1/2 MPG's
I have found out that I get better mileage at 60 MPH than I do at 30 MPH....(and more smiles per gallon)

My 30' Skater w/ twin 588ci/800hp naturally aspirated motors gets right around 1.5 mpg at 110mph cruise - as good as my 28 Skaters got with either 2.5/280s or 3.0/300s at 90 mph cruise. Outboards lose their efficiency advantage over inboards on large boats. Even the 3.2/300XS powered 28s only get around 2.2 mpg at 90 mph cruise. I'm hoping to get around 3.0 - 3.5 mpg at 75 mph cruise with my 23MTR/twin 2.5 200XS motors when I get it on the water. The Stoker 20 w/ 3.0/300 I had over the Summer only got 2.25 mpg average, and the Mirage 4 seater/2.5/280 rig I had for 7 years got just under 3.0 mpg average.

I'm getting between 2-3 mpg most days out when my foot isn't feeling heavy. It's better since I had my injectors cleaned and flowed by Tony/Linda this spring
Typically go thru 5-10 gals an outing with an occasional 20-40 day
Prev had a 2.4 Bridgeport carb on the same boat, was in the low two's (and 93-94 octane)

Totally stock 150 XR6.
Cruising 4000 rpm with intermittent wide open runs, I believe I get around 5 mpg. I can run the 15 mile stretch of river here between dams, both directions, on about 6 gallons. If you just cruise it at about 4 grand with a 26" or 27" wheel, I think it might get close to 6 mpg. I doesn't get substantially better mileage loafing along at 3 grand, but of course gallons per hour go down.
When I ski with it, I run a 23" Trophy. I slalom ski at 3000-3100 (30-31 mph) and my buddy skis 3200-3250. We can each make three slalom runs, about 2 miles each run (12 miles) on about 3 gallons, especially if nobody falls and has to do a restart (holeshots burn it up). Driver doesn't ski. It would be no real problem for three typical skiers to get together and take turns and ski until they were tired on a plain old fashioned 6 gallon tank.
I only have a 13 gallon tank in the boat and only bring with an extra 5 gallon can if I am on big water or have a really full day like at my friend's annual party, giving boat rides and pulling a lot of people. Even then I usually could squeak by on the 13 gallon tank if it was full to the top.
Truthfully, the motor uses very little more gas than my old Evinrude 90 crossflow. And in terms of miles per gallon, my dad's 65 hp Merc inline 4 does very little better.
xb2002 with 200xs 1.87 sportmaster and 30" mod ET last time out ran about 70 miles (cabin down and back twice) and used about 8 gallons speed tween 70 and 90+. I love this freaking setup.

We have a river run each year and it is 17 miles from the ramp to the cabin. My boat holds 24 gal and the trip down is part wot with occasional periods off the throttle a bit but not much. This year we had a broken prop cause one boat to not make it down. Since I have the only sipper and someone had to go to the ramp to get this guy another prop, Jason Japinowski and I ran pretty much flat out to the ramp. The return to the cabin was a blast as I was all alone. That trip was definitely wot. Then back to the ramp as night approached. I use a wooden dowl with graduations and I used barely a third of a tank. This is nothing like the modded 260s most of us had/have and is sure as hell easy to get used to. Oil injected and running on the limiter and getting 8mpg.

I towed the boat to the gas station and put in around 15 gallons of E85.
Then I towed the boat to the river, about 30 miles, and the boat didn't use hardly any fuel at all during that time.

I use my GPS to know the miles I traveled...then I top the tank back off full.....Miles divided by gallons...
I was a bit off. 16 miles according to my US Army Corps map, not 17 like I thought. So I drove 64 miles and not 68. I measured my fuel with a dipstick and the tank is 15 1/2" tall and now has 9 1/2" of gas left meaning I used 6" of 15 1/2" or app. 39% of 24 gals (assuming it was completely full) or 9.36 gals to go 64 miles. Turns out I was only getting 6.8 and not 8. My bad. Getting 6.8 at the speeds I was running is still not too bad.

Efficiency is key on most performance hulls...you might think you are saving by dragging your hull around wet with boiling water...when ideally you want to be running the hull as dry as possible with the prop hooked up with some tall pitch...that's why there is often no difference running at 35 vs 60...so opt for the most efficient ride with your hull and that will be the best SMiles Per Gallon :)

Took us 2hr22min and burned 130 liters of fuel. When we were finished we collected all the left over fuel in all the tanks and there was not more than 5l left on the boat.

my mirage ski-racer with the 300hp rude got just under 4mpg with the 34p ET. We went over 100 miles on 28 gallons at river ranch and that was with a bit of 100+mph blasts. 65mph was 4100 rpm and the boat was popped and flying by then so even with 2 people and a full tank it aired up and cruised nice. Not bad for a carb motor with Jets you could walk through :D

The one time I measured fuel and distance I calculated a little better than 3mpg at 5000rpm @65mph offshore from inlet to inlet. I routinely run an approx. 36 mile roundtrip in the bay on about 7 gals. at 3600rpm @ 45mph which comes to about 5 mpg. Way better than my original 3.4LT cosworth block 275 hp motor

Prop dependant for sure with mine. A 25 trophy a little worse then with a 28 . I run around as fast as I can water dependant. If its smooth water or acceptable for wot i run wot for a mile or so then back off for a mile or so then back to wot again. In a normal day from sun up 7am till sun down 9pm playing around on the water all day I can just burn a full tank. Thats a lot of boating in a day. Stop for a swim, taking people for rides, stop for dinner run till its dark. So around 20gals worth at 5 bucks a gal up hear. The Allison with the 225 promax is really, really fuel savy. Never really worried about it ever. Just run when i want how I want and as far as I always wanted to and never ran out of gas in a day. wot runs are 7300 rpm with the 28 and 7500 with a 25 or 26. In the mornings everyday for 3 weeks I would start the day with a 40 mile round trip to the end of Kal lake and back. Then as the rest of the boaters come out im just searching for clean water to run wot untill lunch and after dinner when theres more clean water again. Ive tried to burn the tank empty and have come close but there hasn't been a day I could.
Running all day the same amount of time running a 20ft Wakesetter my buddy burned 80 gals to my 20 at the end of many days togeather.

About 40% less than whipper, seriously though my son tells me it was using about 48 liters/hr on my slalom run yesterday @ 36 mph and 4800+ rpm with the prop burried and trim tucked under. Overall average consumption over a three year period was 13 liters per hour. Can cruise at 30mph on about 20 l/p/h . Would just love to compare mine to the modern direct drive boats my buddies drive, funny I dont see them on the far sides of the lake very often.

25 Phantom 1984 model with Verado 350 sci consume 4,7 at 4,000 rpms and 50 mph. If 3,500 rpm approx 5 mpg. Had a single PM 300 some years ago consumed 3,5 mpg at 4,000 rpms and same speed. 2 x 2,5 efi ss did 1,76 mpg pluss 3 litre oil of 30 usd per litre... So its a new world!

My tricked out 40hp yamaha on a 14' boat got 11.5MPG on most cruises. It was pretty neat to have nothing but a cooler with a 12 pack and 6 gallons of gas and be able to run up river and back (67 miles) with only a 6 gallon can in the boat.
My current rig can run almost 10 minutes AWOT on 6 gallons. I'll probably add a small boat to the stable again next year.
