Yeah, from what I read it hurt some of them pretty bad. Hook an XR and you get wet and your neck gets a little stretch but that's about it. LOL

Stepped hulls are unpredictable.especially in the hands of a rookie... Dangerous design.
Here is Steve Stepp's take on them;

Notice absolutely no safety gear, vests, etc. yet he has the throttles planted! The video will be great for the lawsuits I suppose.

Thats exactly why y'all never see my wife on my boat, we spent a lot of time around offshore racing, and she has seen more than a few get tossed.

A slippery aerated bottom can definitely hook. But being slippery makes them faster. Any stepped hull can do it, not just Fountains. I scared myself trying to turn a stepped bottom too fast once. I will never do that again........ I wound up in the back corner of the boat and just barely managed to stay in it.

He was slamming the throttles back and forth like he was playing a video game.

Anyone buying a performance step hull should consider spending a weekend with a professional on how to drive it. It's not something you want to learn by trial and error. Just sayin'....

I always thought the worst thing you can do is cut back on the throttles like that because the bow will drop and dig in. It looks like that is what happened.

he sure loves to play with the sticks...
looks like boat landed on his side, bow grabs in the water an chooses a "side". with this happening the stern gets a lilltle lift and loses the grab on the water trying to follow the bow into the turn. hooked...
The ventilated bottom didn't helped also.
Think the the driver never knew what happend, absolute smackdown!

"What happened?"
Easy, your skipper was a dumbass.
There is no fault of the boat or it's bottom design. Someone was thinking he is way cooler than he actually is.
