2004 Evinrude 200 HP is it Ficht? How to positively ID?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a boat with a 2004 Evinrude 200 HP outboard and the owner claims it's not a Ficht motor.

How can I verify this? Anybody have pictures or a real easy way of identifying the differences?

A 2004 Evinrude is a FICHT motor but they started calling them Evinrude DI models. 2002 and later Evinrudes were built by Bombardier and were much better than the 2001 and earlier engines from OMC.

IF the model number has an F in it, right after the hp number, it is a FICHT.

What is the complete model number, it may not even be a 2004 ?

Do the later models still have the problematic water cooled ECU?

if its an 04 they are great motors.
