I have a 86 XP 200 ( E200STLCDR ) that I have a small problem with. It will stall when I first take off, also the ASB is not on this motor and it has 5 carbs with the same part number and one different. What gives ?:(

sounds like the motor is running rich.. and there are two carb bodies in those years you should have the larger ones on there i forget the part # of the top of my head your motor uses the same carb body as a 225 not the regular 200

This motor does not have the Air Silencer Baffle on it, think it was removed. It sucks alot of air. I have 5 carbs part #398743 on it and 1 carb part number #398745. These were on there when I got it. Does this sound right.

Put the air silencer back on your motor it is a critical part you need the open type not the baffeled type this could be your problem all in itself with your hesitation and also these motors blow cylinders when people run them without the silencer very easy in a few running hours. the 398743 carbs are correct that is the larger bore the 45 is off a regular 200

Let me more descrpitive, it has a breather cover on it, but it is all open in side like a turtle shell. I looked on boats.net and they show the ( SEAL: baffle to carbs ) in the cover being used on this motor.

I ordered one of those, was that $62 wasted. Also do I need to change the odd carb. Also it uses a ton of gas, 3/4 mpg. I ran it 4 mile and it used over 4gal of fuel. I know they make 2 types of breather covers for this motor. One with the seal in it and one with a plate in that has a hole for each carb.

The large bore carbs are known to hesitate when throttling up especially with a thru hub prop that hooks up good. These engine had carb changes under warranty when they were new to mid bore carbs.

Will the mid bore carbs cure the hesitation.

proper jetting is all that is required to cure your problem along with proper timing advance and you will run fine you must be sure that the advance curve is correct along with the proper timing

The 743's are mid bores.

The 743's are mid bores.

So I do need the Air Silencer baffle that seals up to the carbs. What is the 45.

What jets are in the carbs? JPHII is correct you already have the mid bore, make sure your timing is advancing as it should.

Will check timing, do I need to change to carb with P# 398745. It is the odd carb, top port side. Other 5 are P# 398743.

I've never seen a carb marked with the 745 number, but if it has the same bore size you should be fine.

It maybe a 743, sounds good.

Checked odd carb again and it is a 398743, my bad . I got a Air box with the baffle over the weekend. What size jets do I need to put in this motor. Also does the Mid Bore carbs require the breather with the baffle like the photo above ( part # 33 & 34 ).

You don't need the airbox. Check the timing advance like Al said, and see what jets you have in it now. You can't find out what you need without knowing what you've got.

Taking out jets Thursday to see what they are. Busy today and tomorrow. Will let you know what jets I have. I checked timing and it is good from what I see ( having it double checked Thursday also ). Will post findings. Thanks

Is the 91' XP 200 the same motor? Did they all have the big bore carbs?

My motor has the 74D jets. Changed to 62D and added baffle. Barely plane off, loss of 600 rpm and 10mph.

Well I got a update, we chaged the jets from 74D to 62D and added the baffle in the breather box. Had a miss at take but ran great for about 1/2 mile then dropped to 4800 and 47mph suddenly. Come to find out I have a bad power pack on port side. #2 jug not firing. Could this been some of my problem, like it was slowly go bad or do they go all of a sudden. ( power pack #583030)

It's possible. I'd check the stator too. If you need a set of packs or a stator I have both new at not new prices. You have checked the timing & advance by the book, correct?

HP, the 91 does not have big bore carbs.

Go back to the 74d's and pull the baffle back out of the airbox. The 86-87 xp's didn't have them from the factory. The carbs were set to run without the baffle. Adding the baffle isn't helping.
